An easy decision to make.
The Patagonia Fly Fishing Vest Front Sling takes the best of a fishing vest and blends it with prime features of sling packs so you don't have to choose between a vest or sling. A row of vertical pockets gives you the best of the vest, while a large storage pocket sings the praises of the sling.
Light and breathable, the body of this sling-vest is made from 210D polyester 3-D spacer mesh. Small pockets hold small gear, and the back zipper closer guards the entrance to the large pocket, where you can stash lunch, a fly box, and a compressible, ultralight raincoat. An internal security pouch offers waterproof storage for your car keys and phone, while other internal organizers keep tippet spools safe. A bottom water bottle holder prevents you from going dry in the middle of a body of water. With a simple swing, you can change what faces forward, be it the vest side or the sling side. Either way, the Vest Front Sling provides great gear storage on your body for a full day of fly-fishing fun.

Pack For it's Versatility
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I wasn't a big fan of having a sling pack although I saw this and I took a chance. I can say this has changed my mind. You can tell it's a nice durable material just by the touch. I have taking this through some thick brush and still looks like it seems as it's new. The pockets are huge and the pack has plenty of organization to place all your gear. I have used this for fishing as it is designed for, but this is an amazing pack for photography as well. The pockets are large enough to hold lenses and accessories. The loops to hold a fishing pole is plenty to strap a tripod on there as well. It's nice and easy to swing the sling over for quick access to the pack itself. It's a great pack!
Even Better than I was Expecting
I wanted something to upgrade from my old hip pack. This looked like a good pack. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was better than I was expecting. The size is perfect. I love the vest feature on the front part of the sling. There are so many pockets, which allows optimal organization. There are perfect pockets for a fly box, all of my tippet, splitshot, all of my leaders, as well as spots for nips, and forceps and anything else you would need (and that's just the front sling pockets). The actual pack is the perfect size. I am able to throw several extra fly boxes (or one big one for throwing meat) as well as an extra layer for those fall days when you might need to throw a puffy on. The waterproof pouch fits my phone, headlamp and keys with ease. The water bottle pouch seemed a little small at first, but I was easily able to fit my Nalgene. One of the coolest features in my opinion is the connection point for a net. It is similar to what you would see on the back of a vest. As far as fit goes, it is very adjustable and I am very happy with this pack.
Nice size pack
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I was looking for a bag that would keep a few items dry. I was looking at the stormfront packs but i found this pack for half the price. There is a small pocket inside the main compartment that is water proof. When i went to the river i dunked the bag in and held it under for awhile to test the waterproof pocket. Everything that was in the pocket stayed dried, the pack does take on some water but less than what I thought it would. Pockets on the front of the sling are a little bit bigger than i was expecting but are nice to fit fly box.

This bag is great for my fly fishing needs. There are a ton of pockets, waterproof pouch, and it's extremely useful. My only complaint is that it's a bit big for a small person like myself (5'1" and 115 lbs). I have a hard time getting the buckles to fit me and sometimes find that the bag still slides off of my shoulders.
