    Need multiples!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought this for my brother in law because almost every time I see him he is wearing the same R1 so I knew he could use an additional. He noted that the fit of his new one is slightly larger and looser than previously so I think the newer version of this may run a little large.

    So Good!

I love this layer for climbing and ski touring! I like this version of the R1 better than the hooded version because I normally wear a balaclava when in the mountains. I normally am in between a large and medium, but the medium fit great!

      Should have kept it

Bought this as a gift for a layering fleece. Nice quality and fit true-to-size, the receiver is super happy with it.

      still the same

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: Runs large

I have an earlier version of this and decided to upgrade and get a new one. The fit is a little bit more relaxed, and the sleeves a little longer. It is the same great workmanship and feels nice and warm. The temps have not dropped yet so I have not been able to put it to the test .
It is a great product that will perform.

      My Go to Woe Fleece.

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

This is my everyday work horse and I love it. This is replacing an old one that is now full of holes and considerably thinner then when I first bought it roughly 8 or 9 yrs ago ( its no longer warm enough to do the job I bought it for). I have a black one for cities, a green and now a blue one for hiking and rock-climbing. Over the cooler times of the year I'm always in one of them as its the perfect weight for layering with other pieces. The slim fit goes under the harness easily yet there's plenty of room in the shoulders for unrestricted movement when climbing. My old battered one has now become a good winter layer for mountain-biking as the slim fit doesn't snag on passing branches and I don't have to worry about destroying it on falls or overheating in it. Versatile and tough, it a no brainer.

      Great lightweight fleece

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 6'4"
      • Weight: 160lbs

This is a good lightweight fleece, works well under a softshell on windy morning hikes, or under an insulated jacket for added warmth while ski touring. Fit is slim, to fit well under layers. I normally wear a medium in all Patagonia jackets and the Medium fit perfectly. I have long arms, so I appreciate the longer sleeves in all Patagonia's jackets.

      Disappointing Prospect as Base Layer

      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 6'1"
      • Weight: 170lbs

I picked up an R1 Hoody a little over a year ago and absolutely love it as a base layer and as an outer layer on less chilly days. The fit is fantastic. The elongated sleeves with thumb loops are great. If you wear glasses, the hood can be a bit snug on the frames when zippered up tight, but manageable. With the R1 Pullover, I was hoping to find the same great product without the hood. Unfortunately, it is not the same product in two key ways. While the sleeves are still extra long, there are no thumb loops, so the material bunches at the wrists and lower arms when sliding it under a mid-layer. Also, whereas the hoody has a nice athletic fit, the pullover runs larger and is significantly boxy. Again, not ideal for a base layer. There are plenty of great fitting, high quality, mid-weight fleece pullovers on the market that make excellent base and mid-layers. And they cost a fair amount less than the R1 Pullover. If Patagonia does ever make an R1 Pullover with the same cut and features as the Hoody, I'll definitely get one. As for the current incarnation, I'm sending mine back for a refund.

Classic piece but they changed things

      • Fit: Runs large

Got as a gift and here was the feedback I got:

" The older versions with the thumb loops, embroidered logo and true to fit size was much better. This new version got rid of the thumb loops on the non hooded version and the sizing is way bigger. A large is the old version was perfect and now I need to gain some weight to fill this thing in."

      Super Great!!!

Patagonia's R1 pullovers are FANTASTIC! I own three, one with hood and two without. I wear a capilene tshirt, an R1 pullover, then maybe a midlayer (on cold, windy days) and a shell, and I'm toasty all day. These are slim fit, while I'm normally an XL, I ordered XXL for the longer tail to tuck into pants/bibs. The fit is slim enough to where sizing up is not overly large. I'm thrilled with the R1! Another great product from a great company.

      another great layer

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: XL
      • Height: 6'3"

I just got this and I have used it for two days of snowboarding in Steamboat. It is a perfect, lightweight layering piece. It is surprisingly warm for its weight. I recommend it.

      Great Lighter Weight Midlayer

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Size Bought: medium
      • Height: 5'10"
      • Weight: 165lbs

This jacket is amazing! I needed something a bit lighter than my Nano Air and this jacket does the trick. It's great for skiing as it breathes amazingly. It has a trim fit so fits pretty close to the body. All i wear underneath is a baselayer and it works great. Recommended for casual use also, but mostly for active people that need this to breathe!

      The Perfect Baselayer

I gifted this Patagonia fleece to a friend and have their feedback to share:

This is a great piece of clothing. I could see myself wearing this all year round, but I definitely use it the most during the colder winter months. This particular piece of clothing is great for layering. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to stay warm and look good doing it.

      A classic piece

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Height: 5'11"
      • Weight: 175lbs

This piece of clothing is as stylish as it is functional. I wear mine year round! Highly recommended for anyone looking for a uber functional mid layer.

      Great as a baselayer!

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Definitely more of a baselayer than a midlayer. High quality construction. By using many panels it achieves a nice slim fit without feeling too tight. Although the arms are a little tight around the elbows which made it uncomfortable for me to wear a long sleeve shirt under it and is why I consider it a baselayer. A fitted tshirt was comfortable under it. The medium fit quite well. I wore it on a hike with a very light backpack in the 50's to 60's with light wind and it was perfect by itself. Breathes really well and I am interested to see how it performs with a shell or windshirt in colder temperatures.

      Great layering piece

      • Size Bought: L
      • Height: 6'0"
      • Weight: 185lbs

I wear this on chilly days as a stand alone and on cold days as a layer. It's fantastic and keeps you warm. I have an R2 as well. Can't recommend this piece enough!

      Perfect for Early Mornings!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 5'8"

This is my go to baselayer for Summer and Fall fishing trips. I leave it on all day on the river then transition to town in the evening! Another great Patagonia product with great style.

The fit could be better, otherwise great

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: Runs small
      • Size Bought: XL
      • Height: 6'3"
      • Weight: 225lbs

It has a slim, base-layer fit, so it's probably not something most people will want to wear out on the town. I am 6'3'' 225, 39'' waist, and 43'' chest. The L was skin tight and the XL fits okay; I would prefer it to be less slim. It is also a little long for my liking but that can be a boon to performance as it will stay tucked in. As for it's thermal performance, I didn't get to test it but I have used Polar Tech Grid Fleece before and it works great. Great warmth to weight ratio and excellent breathability. Obviously that breathability goes both ways so don't expect to stay toasty while wearing it as an outer layer if there is a cool wind blowing. To summarize, if you are looking for a fairly thick and very efficient base/mid-layer for active use and you care little for style then this piece is definitely worth a look.
