    Down Sweater Vest

From summer climbing in the alpine to winter ski sessions in the backcountry, you may end up taking the Patagonia Men's Down Sweater Vest wherever you roam. Just stow the vest inside its chest pocket before you pack it up, but be sure to let it out regularly so its plush 800-fill Traceable Down insulation retains its loft and efficient insulating properties over time. Patagonia's Traceable Down comes from geese that were never live plucked or force fed.

To enhance its green status, Patagonia made the shell out of a recycled polyester ripstop that's light, windproof, and water-resistant thanks to a DWR finish. Patagonia updated the Down Sweater with a more contoured fit that's longer for better coverage on cold camping trips, and the hem cuffs help retain the down's wonderful warmth. Patagonia also added two zippered handwarmer pockets and a zippered internal chest pocket that doubles as a stow pocket when it's time to pack it up and hit the trail or skintrack.

    • An insulating layer ideal for chilly belays and freezing ski days
    • 800-fill Traceable Down insulation is lightweight and compressible
    • Recycled polyester shell is windproof and water-resistant
    • Adjustable hem and elasticized cuffs work to retain heat
    • One zippered internal stow pocket at chest
    • Contoured fit with longer hem wears over and under layers easily
    • Patagonia is dedicated to producing eco-conscious products
    • Item #PAT00FP

    Nice materials/stitching - horrible fit

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Large & XL
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 190lbs

Seemingly solid construction, nice zippers and pockets, and yellow color was great... exact shade I was looking for. Had heard that the warmth on these was outstanding.

And then I put it on.

Worst fit of all time. I am 6'0", 190 lbs, 32" waist and 40-42 in a sport coat (for sake of comparison). Put on the large and it looked as though the shoulders were made for an average-sized 6th grader and the torso/waist were designed for somebody that wears a 46" waist pantsize. Ridiculous. Looked horrible. Tried XL and it was horrible as well... shoulders still did not fit and waist could have been suitable for Santa Claus and his belly (like a bowl full of jelly).

For $170, this is extremely confusing. I expect a horrible fit like that for something that costs $20. Did somebody purchase the brand and tank the design? Or is the average Patagonia customer shaped like a pear?

Disappointed and in process of returning product.

    Closet essential vest

    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 145lbs

I bought this for my boyfriend and he is excited to put it to use this winter! It is lightweight, warm, and comfortable. It seems easy to be layered with also.

    Good looking, lightweight, and warm

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 195lbs

If you are in the market for lightweight, warm and windproof Vest this is the best product you can get for this price range.
I've used this vest throughout the Colorado Rockies and during my business trips, and I would say this is one of the most comfortable & good looking pieces I've owned.
I would certainly give it 5 stars for great build quality!

    Nice looking, very warm!

    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 155lbs

The vest has done a wonderful job keeping me warm all winter. Looks very nice, good quality, and built to last. My only recommendation would be to get the lighter version of it, since it's much warmer than it looks.

    Patagonia Down Sweater Vest

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: S

This is my favorite vest by far for snowshoe racing, in negative degree winter weather in Maine!

Lightweight down vest for mild weather.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 220lbs

Found this version on sale so bought the Ramble Red which complements my Patagonia French Red Down Sweater Jackets, Non-hooded and Hooded versions, making a complete set in red color. The Ramble Red is a bit darker than the French Red which is slighter brighter.
The vest fits true to size and fits nicely over a base layer shirt and a light/midweight fleece with enough room for a heavier base or mid layer. It's not thick as a regular down vest but warm enough, at least indoors and in temps from mid-30s F and above.
You'll need to wear it under a warmer jacket or shell for Cold, wintry weather.
The ripstop fabric is lightweight and relatively thin so it won't hold up well if you use it harshly.
There's no fleece inner liner in the hand pockets so you'll need to keep some gloves in those pockets as well as gloves.
It's Expensive, hence Patagucci, so buy when it's on sale :)

    Christmas was won!

Little late getting this review out. I got this vest for my husband, and he loves it. He wears it about every day. It looks great. It's all he needs on more mild winter days. He got a medium and the fit was perfect. Also love that the down is gotten humanely.

      Warmth Booster

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

It gets cold in South Dakota, and I'm an outdoor photographer who isn't afraid of the coldest nights. This vest is great when riding in the truck and jumping in & out, but it doesn't stop there. It's so thin it's an easy way to boost warmth under my main winter parka when the temperature hits zero F and is still in a free fall. It's hard to believe that something this thin and light could be so warm! I've worn it almost everyday since receiving it last month (in temperatures hovering near zero F) and would buy another one of these if something happened to this one. I wear under either an Outdoor Research Floodlight (lightweight jacket) or under a Mountain Hardwear Absolute Zero parka when the mercury is hiding in the thermometer's bulb.

      Every dad should have one

My father loves this vest. He likes this better then the ultra light down vest because he wanted more substance to it. He loves the fit, how warm it keeps him and it looks really nice.

It's nice but not at full price

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Medium
        • Height: 5'11"
        • Weight: 175lbs

This vest is nice. It's surprisingly warm and seems durable. I also have a Mountain Hardwear Nitrous jacket, and this is definitely thicker than that. That isn't really a benefit or a drawback, but note that it is pretty thick and pretty warm. The price is really high though. I got mine on sale and it isn't hard to find this or similar down vests from other manufacturers for the $90-120 range.

As for sizing, I'm 5'11'' and 175lbs and the medium fits comfortably with a lightweight fleece underneath. I have a little room but not too much extra.

        Excellent vest

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Medium
        • Height: 5'8"
        • Weight: 159lbs

Fits great. Really warm. Color arbor green is the same as picture.
        Fully recommended.

        Two thumbs up!

        • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
        • Fit: Runs large
        • Size Bought: Large
        • Height: 6'0"
        • Weight: 220lbs

I originally ordered an XL by mistake, and had to exchange. The Large was a perfect fit for my man; but it does run a bit large. Being a puffy, it packs easily for hiking but fluffs right back up. If you've never owned a vest, they are worth the splurge to regulate body temperature without over-heating.

        Great vest!

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Large
        • Height: 5'8"
        • Weight: 185lbs

I absolutely love this vest and it is by far the best vest I own. It's amazing how warm the vest is for being so lightweight, and I love the feature of being able to pack it into its own pocket. This makes is great when traveling and/or backpacking. I would definitely recommend this vest to anyone who is considering it.

        Sizing off for me

        • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Medium & Large
        • Height: 6'0"
        • Weight: 180lbs

Sizing just off for me on this at 6'/180 lbs/41" chest. Large was just big all around (gut/mid-section & chest), exchanged for a Medium, which was just too tight in the chest. I just happen to be right in between on Patagonia sizing on that vest. Thanks to Ben @ BC for being so patient with me on all the exchanging. I finally settled on a Arcteryx Cerium LT vest in Large which fits perfect.
Still give this 5 stars since it's a solid vest...just my wacky body type/size doesn't jive with Patagonia sizing.

I could fit two people inside an XL

        • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
        • Fit: Runs large
        • Size Bought: XL
        • Height: 6'2"
        • Weight: 195lbs

I'm sure this vest is a great piece if it happens to fit you, but the sizing is really weird. I'm 6'2" and 195 lbs. Based on other reviews, I knew it was probably going to be on the big side. And Patagonia says up front it's not a slim or athletic fit vest. But I'm fairly tall so I wanted it to be long enough. Well, an XL is long enough. But it's also big enough to fit an additional person. If I had an extra 50 lbs of beer belly it'd probably fit just great (hey, gotta have goals, right?!).

This vest is just what I needed.

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Medium
        • Height: 6'1"
        • Weight: 152lbs

True to size, warm and functional. Good buy!! Backcountry is easy to work with too. Can't go wrong.

        Love the material!

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Medium
        • Height: 5'9"
        • Weight: 165lbs

Great placement of pockets. The material breaths easily when slightly zipped (probably just a consequence of no sleeves, but hey). Slightly puffy, without being all puffed up in your field of view, in your face, or making you feel weird. Looks great. Just buy one now.

Anyone else feel like this fits a little boxy? I wear a large in almost everything, and the large in this one was way too much through the body... Shoulders fit great and obviously the hem cinch makes that area adjustable, but can't help but feel like it doesn't hug my midsection at all
