Versatile and lightweight.

When your fishing forays vary from a few hours to a few days, you need a vest that adapts to meet your needs. Made from lightweight and breathable mesh, the Patagonia Convertible Fly Fishing Vest is designed to meet your ever-changing angling attitude. The mesh vest body minimizes the likelihood the fish will smell you coming. Multiple pockets crafted from 420D ballistic nylon won't withstand bullets or pescatarian bears, but should endure just about everything else. Internal zippered pockets offer leader line and tippets safe haven from snarls and other knotty issues. Rugged hypalon utility keepers and rod holders free your hands for the more important things, like attaching a new fly or opening a refreshing beverage.
Mesh is magnificent and indestructible pockets are awesome. But the truly exciting aspect of this angling vest is its flexibility. You can take off the back of the vest, attach the front to any number of Patagonia fishing packs, and turn that pack into a vest of sorts.

  • 100% polyester mesh vest
  • 420D ballistic nylon pockets
  • Multiple pockets
  • Hypalon utility keeper and rod holder
  • Detaches at shoulder and waist
  • Vest front attaches to Patagonia Sweet Pack, Stormfront Roll Top Pack, and Stormfront Pack (packs not included)

Thoughtful Design.

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 5'3"
  • Weight: 110lbs

I bought this for a relative, and this is what they had to say:

I love this little vest, emphasis on the little. It's just the right size for shoving into the top of my backpack so once I've set up camp I can toss this little guy on and go throw some lures. With the mesh back I still get a nice breeze too, which is great after a long haul up the mountain. On those short day hikes it also attaches to the shoulder straps on my bag. Now I can have my hydration and snacks and all my fishing tackle to boot!

Great Vest

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 6'2"
  • Weight: 185lbs

This was my first new fly vest after using my dads old one for years. It honestly doesn't feel like I'm wearing anything, and it doesn't move at all when bending over even if the straps aren't at their tightest. I also purchased one of the backpacks this could clip on to, which is a feature I never thought I'd be utilizing, but I found it to be convenient . It's a great vest for a great price and I couldn't recommend it enough!

Best vest I've used!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: n/a
  • Height: 6'4"
  • Weight: 250lbs

I've owned everything from Filson, Simms, vests, waist packs, etc. and the Patagonia vest takes the cake. It has a "slim" feel that don'r encumber the fisherman. The vertical box holders don't scrub your forearms and it doesn't have "too much", it just has whats required for a great day of fishing.

Convertible Vest video review

Corey from Patagonia talks through the brand new Convertible Fly Fishing Vest

I see the velcro strap up top for holding the rod, but I haven't seen any pictures with the rod butt loop anywhere. Is this feature the same as the Mesh Master and Minimalist vests? What I mean is, does it have the same rod butt loop or is there something new? That was one of my favorite features of the Mesh Master vest. Both hands were free, for balance, while moving across the river.

tstockt - No there is no loop for the the reel end of the rod... I called Patagonia... they left it off... for no reason...I would just add one... easy to do... Sad they did not... unlike them to goof like this

According to the patagonia site, this vest front comes attached to a vest back (not the sweet fly fishing pack you have pictured). Will I get the vest back with this purchase?
