    Details

Light and fast doesn't have to mean unsafe.

The Mammut Light RAS 3.0 Airbag Backpack is spacious enough to hold all your gear and other essentials on a full-day tour in the backcountry, but it's such a featherweight that it makes travel a breeze on long skins or rapid-fire yo-yo laps.

The Removable Airbag System (RAS) uses a large square airbag that deploys in a hot second (well, three) to help prevent burial in the event of a slide by decreasing your mass to surface area ratio. The airbag also surrounds your head and core to protect you from blunt force trauma. A safety leg loop keeps the pack in place so the airbag deploys in the correct position, even if you're tumbling, and the bag's bright orange color makes it easier for rescuers to spot you. An easy-access front pocket allows you to reach your beacon and probe quickly if one of your partners gets caught in a slide.

At just two pounds, the RAS system is superlight, but it's easy to pop out of the pack if you're wearing it inbounds or during the summer months. This drops the pack's weight to just over two pounds and opens up a little more of the 30L of storage capacity, so you can haul extra gear. Outside, the Light RAS features a diagonal ski carrier and snowboard carrier and two ice-axe attachments to keep your gear neat, secure, and easy to access. Use your hydration system with this pack for easy thirst-quenching on the go and cinch down the sides when you're traveling light to keep it close to your back, stable, and streamlined.

This airbag system is NOT a guarantee that you will survive an avalanche; get educated, get the right tools, travel with partners, and be smart out there.

What do you think about this product?

    Have questions about this product?

    Great Ski Touring Pack

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

What I like about this pack is that it can be used as an Avalanche Airbag Pack or you can use it with out the Airbag for a super light spring/summer skiing/climbing pack. With a full canister it is roughly 5.6lbs making it nice and light for touring as well.

    Unanswered Question

I have a large 12inch Black diamond Aluminum Avalanche shovel. Will it fit into the backpack?
    Thanks
    Ralph

Does this product include the actual Airbag and the Airbag Cartridge? i.e. is this pack complete and ready to go?

Hey Fel! So, I just had our guy down at the warehouse check, since the store page is a little vague. It definitely does come with the airbag system. However it does not actually come with the gas cartridge at all, you will have to buy that separate. I hope that helps! if you have any other question, feel free to email me at zricklefs@backcountry.com

is this pack one size fits all?

    Hey there Oliver!

This pack does not have a size option to pick from! It has a fixed torso length of 21 inches! If you have any more questions about this pack or this system feel free to contact me directly via the information on this reply!
