Glidelite Splitboard Mix STS Climbing Skin

Black Diamond makes all sorts of skins for backcountry touring; some are for skis, some are for splitboards, some are mohair, some are nylon, and some are a combination of both. In the case for Black Dimaond's Glidelite Splitboard Mix STS Climbing Skin, it's a climbing skin suitable for splitboarders looking for better grip on steep skin tracks than glide on flatter traverses. Usually, skins made of a mohair nylon blend strike a solid balance between grip and glide, but since Black Diamond made this one with more nylon than mohair, the Glidelite gives greater grip to prevent slipping on firmer snow.

El Camino skins!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

After previously having trouble with my Nitro Squash swallowtail not liking the G3 skin attachment, I was recommended to try these by one of the Gearheads, Ryan, after he talked with Nitro. These looked a little more challenging to attach to I took them into my local shop (Neptune Mountaineering in Boulder, CO) to have them professionally trimmed and set up. The shop tech Chris, recommended that I get the BD STS Tail strap replacement set but for skis as the included splitboard tail strap was not very compatible with swallowtails so I bought a set ~$12 and they ended up working great. The shop called them El Camino skins because they're snowboard attachment up front and ski attachment in the back. The fit is next level compared to the G3, much easier to transition. Also the BD skins include real cheat sheets (not just the flimsy plastic from G3), a rip strip (small plastic strip running down middle of skin which you can rip off if you have a glue failure so you can still skin out of a hairy situation) and the bag is actually designed nicely that there are mesh "vents" so your skins can dry a little in the car ride back home before you hang them up.

El Camino skins!

Good skin

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

They're great for my split, and it was easy to fit them on and trim them. It comes with a trimming tool, along with all hardware necessary. to get skinned up and out on the tracks.

I ordered these skins with splitboard specific tail clips. The instructions that came with it were from the ski tail clips. I'm having some issues with the configurations to get it to fit properly. Do you have a link to a video? I haven't been able to find anything on line, or on Black Diamonds site. Any help would be appreciated.
