    Comfort is key.

It’s hard to listen to your friends teaching you how to gym climb when your feet feel scrunched worse than a ballerina’s. Black Diamond’s Momentum Climbing Shoe balances comfort with performance so you can learn how to climb comfortably. Most climbing shoes opt for leather or synthetic leather uppers to keep durable throughout your rocky adventures. Black Diamond, on the other hand, made this shoe’s upper out of a unique knit that enhances breathability without hindering overall durability. This enhanced breathability also decreases the foul smells that standard leather climbing shoes excrete in your car, closet, or wherever you store your climbing shoes. Since this isn’t a leather or synthetic leather climbing shoe, the Momentum shouldn't stretch as much as usual climbing shoes, and if this is your first pair of climbing shoes, you might want to consider getting this pair in your street shoe size even though your friends are telling you to size down. The NeoFriction rubber sole is also unique in that it’s molded—as opposed to the usual cutting from one sheet of rubber—to the shoe in order to increase longevity and ensure traction on greasy, plastic footholds.

    • Comfortable climbing shoe for beginners
    • Unique knit upper enhances breathability and decreases stretch
    • NeoFriection rubber molded onto upper for long-lasting traction
    • Flat last and low asymmetry assures all-day comfort

    SIZE UP!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Awesome shoe but I had to re-order to get the right size. These do need to be a size bigger than street shoe. Great for smear and cracks and the velcro is easy to slip on.

    Everyday kinda shoe

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

An awesome neutral shoe by a company who knows what they're doing! Perfect for gym bigwall climbing in the moring, a couple bouldering problems after lunch, then out to the granite in the evening. I love the super durable rubber that'll keeping holding up thru an entire season.

The Perfect Climbing Shoe for Everybody

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Whether you're climbing indoor or outdoor, these shoes are great for all ability levels. They won't give you some of the benefits from a more aggressive shoe and are probably best suited for mellow routes, but your feet won't hate you after only a few minutes of wear. I can go all day in them as if nothing's on my feet.

    Comfy Gym Shoe

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I sized off my street shoe. I'm normally a 9.5 street shoe and that works perfectly for me. They are super comfy despite the fact my toes are a little curled, but not uncomfortably so. I can leave these shoes on for an entire gym sesh if I want to. Do NOT size these shoes down, they actually aren't designed to be sized down. I'll size down most of my sport/gym shoes for performance, but this is not a shoe to do that with.

For a $90 entry level shoe I have been really impressed with these shoes. While they're not going to compete with $150+ shoes in terms of precision, edging or being able to toe in on steep routes they get the job done at a great price. These have been my gym shoe for about a year now. They work just fine up to around: 11+ and ~V5.

    Great Starter Shoe

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have used these shoes all summer and I love them. You definitely want to go with your street shoe size or bigger. They do tend to run small. But other than that I have loved the shoes. They are very grippy and are durable. They do not really stretch out much from what I have seen but if you want to get a new shoe at a good price point check these out.

    Great for Gym Shoe!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm 9.5 and I bought them 10.5, they were good for training and very comfortable. They run small but once you have the perfect size for your foot, you will have no problem. They are good for training in the gym. I do not think they are so good for Outdoor and Sport Climbing, but that is not in doubt that I am good at training and for the price.

Consider this your next gym shoe!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

After trying these on, it was apparent I should have probably gotten my exact street shoe size. I wear an 11.5 street shoe and got 10.5s at first, which was excruciatingly small. I sized up to an 11, which was better, but still snug. They feel very tight when initially putting them on, and create a lot of pressure on the top knuckles of my 2nd toes. At least it's bearable with the 11s. I'm still waiting for them to break in, but the rubber is very stiff. The heel cup is roomy, so if you have a narrow heel, this won't secure on your foot very well. The mesh upper part of the shoe is synthetic, so unlike leather or suede shoes it won't stretch very much if at all. I suggest getting your straight up shoe size. The Velcro is super secure and nice though, and they are a very effective gym shoe.

    Great Gym Shoe

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I was looking for a pair of comfortable shoes to wear at the gym. Decided to give these a go, and couldn't be happier. Shoe do fit slightly small, but feel great after breaking them in. Support is pretty good, but you may want to look for a more aggressive shoe if you are looking for a lot of toe support. Will update after more use!

    An Amazing Basic Shoe

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

My brother in law was looking for his first pair of climbing shoes and I recommended these. I tried them on during a demo and LOVED the fit. He compared and tried on several different brands and decided that these were perfect... after using them he loves them and gets complements and questions about them all the time at the gym.

For Black Diamonds over due attempt at a climbing shoe, it's incredible. I'm going to have to get myself a pair.

    Good Value

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I had these shoes on a demo for a few weeks and got to climb with them a few times in the gym. Overall they are a good shoe they fit slightly more generously than many of the other BD options and i climbed with a half size down from my shoe size and they fit well. That being said they do not fit my feet as well as i would like. I have relatively average sized feet and i just felt like they had a bit of excess material. If you have a higher volume fit they would probably be a great option. the rubber is good, but not the best i have used. Overall i really like the shoes and recommend them as a good beginner shoe that will still allow you to progress and be relatively comfortable.

    Solid Shoe

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've had these for 6 months now and had enough time in them that I'm comfortable rating them. These have become my favorite climbing shoe. They are so damn comfortable and the rubber has lasted much longer than my other climbing shoes. I've taken them to the bugaboos and all over Tahoe Ca where I live. Black Diamond made the right choice by now making climbing shoes, I'm already looking for a second pair of these for myself and my girlfriend.

    Solid Shoe

    Comfortable, Sticky, Adjustable, Cheap

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I tend to put most of my climbing mileage on comfortable shoes that fit snugly with my toes only slightly bent. That pair used to be 5.10 Rogues, which were great until they stretched, and more recently Scarpa Instinct VS after the toe rubber wore through. The synthetic upper for the Momentums should keep them from stretching like the Rogues, the thicker rubber should give them more longevity than the Instincts, and the fit is just as snug and extremely comfortable. The heel cup also feels surprisingly secure on heel hooks; the only weaknesses I've seen so far are on toe hooks and very small chips, and if I'm doing small, powerful toe movements I break out more aggressive shoes anyways. They also smear noticeably better than either the Rogues or the Instincts.

TL;DR: These are the best cheap shoes I've owned, and on par with Instinct VS for everything except small, finicky toe moves.
