    Your go-to backcountry ski pole.

Black Diamond outfitted its Razor Carbon Ski Pole with FlickLock technology so you can adjust the length of this durable pole on the fly with a flick of your thumb. This is a light and stiff pole designed for use during long ski tours into the backcountry and steep traverses across exposed slopes with its 4in powder baskets and Soft Touch upper shaft touring ring. Black Diamond equipped this pole with an updated handle designed with touring in mind and added a rubber handle extension for quick and secure choke ups when you're sidehilling or booting up a steep couloir. A smooth swing weight helps you execute fluid pole plants, and a thick-walled aluminum upper shaft combined with a carbon fiber lower section gives your the best of both alloy and carbon.

    Gets the job done

These poles are pretty good, but not my favorite over the years. What I like is that they are light and have good grip at multiple points along the poles, so you can easily adjust where your hands are depending on the angle of the skintrack. What I don't like is that the lower half seems to slip and has trouble staying in place, even when tightened with a screwdriver. Out of the box, the first day I went touring, I couldn't get them to stay at a constant desired height... they kept slipping down to the lowest height. I've got it figured out a bit better now, but it's not as reliable as I'd hoped. Definitely gets the job done once you work with them a bit, but not as seamless as I'd hoped.

      Good touring poles

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These poles are great for touring. Lightweight and adjustable. Would recommend them as a touring pole to anyone.

      Light weight touring pole!

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These were my first pair of touring poles and have use them a handful of times. They are very light and easy to adjust. I had to tighten up the Flicklock right when I got it so I was able to pop my bindings off with out have the pole slide, I have had no issues since I tightened it. Only used them on tours not in bounds yet but they should hold up to the inbound abuse with no issues. They are thinner then some poles out there and I can see if you fell on them that they could snap, but that goes along with most ski poles out there.

      What a Shame

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Loved these poles, had them for 1 season then one day I was tapping my boots after hiking for a line and they snapped. Right as I was about to drop in. LAME! Left me skiing and skinning back with 1/2 a pole. I won't be buying these again.

Snapped while kick-gliding on cat track

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I really liked these poles....until one snapped in half while I was kick-gliding on a cat-track getting back to the slopes....Just pushing and gliding, no hard impact or falls. It really surprised me and left me with one pole for the rest of the day. Bummer.....

Are the powder baskets removable for use in the summer?

Sonya, the baskets are removable, however, these are recommended as ski poles and using them in the summer on dirt and rocks will dull the pole tips much faster and will lessen the usefulness of the pole tips for later winter use.
