Ultralight protective warmth for high and cold places.

Its PrimaLoft Gold Down Blend mixes ultra-fine synthetic fibers with hydrophobic goose down for the superior warmth-to-weight ratio of down and water-resistance of synthetic fill. Black Diamond wrapped up this insulation with a windproof Pertex Microlight shell for superlight and water-resistant protection. The Cold Forge also features an adjustable helmet-compatible hood, stretch gusseted cuffs, and a drawcord hem to further block out bad weather.

    Tall girls rejoice!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 156lbs

This jacket is awesome! My Marmot Ama Dablam is worn out, so I needed a warm winter coat that would hold up in rain, snow and cold temps. I looked at a TON of down and synthetic coats, but decided I wanted down for the warmth. Then I found the Cold Forge Hoody, with its water resistant shell and down/synthetic blend. I was skeptical when I ordered it, and even more skeptical when I got it because it looks wimpy. I assure you, it is not! We got hit with a north Idaho blizzard with temps below zero and tons of snow the day after I got it. I run cold, but this coat kept me comfortable standing outside in 10 degrees (with a sweatshirt on). The fit is awesome, trim and flattering with room to layer under or over it, the hood is nice and deep and cinches down, and the SLEEVES!! The sleeves are what tall girls dream of. Super long, even reaching overhead with my crazy long arms. The pockets have fleece on the front liner but not the back, so they are cozy-ish but do let some cold leak in. I've worn this coat for 3 days and love it but can't speak for its longevity. At 6' tall, 155 lbs the large is perfect on me. (I also wear a large in Patagonia jackets).

    Runs Tight

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 140lbs

I’ve had this jacket for a year and a half now and I would say it fits like a tight glove. The fit of my jacket is the complete opposite of those saying it’s too big, but I wonder if that’s because of the way my body is proportioned? I have a 34DDD chest with a smaller waist and bigger hips. The medium zips tight around the hips and chest with no room to layer anything but a t-shirt underneath. I squeezed a crew sweatshirt under when I was shivering in Europe and was able to zip it up, but was very constricted. I’ve climbed in this only once (zipped) and there was no stretch to it. If you’re buying this for casual wear or don’t really zip your jackets up, stick with your normal size. I do recommend, however, to size up if you’re looking to climb, be active in it, or are wanting to layer comfortably.
This was a gift, I never buy down/animal. Feathers are always poking out of it, which is always a sad reminder for me.

    Nice jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 120lbs

Best thing about this jacket is the fit. That said, if you like to move a lot or use it for an active jacket you might not like how form fitting it is. It is relatively warm although I think there are warmer jackets for the same weight and material type. For the cost though this is a great jacket!

    Fit not so great

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 150lbs

I'm 5'8" and found this jacket a little too short for me. Also, I don't have the largest arms and found the sleeves to be massive. It seemed like it would be warm and functional but if I'm going to spend this kind of money, I want it to fit me well.

    Lived in it

Got this for my sister and she said

I have basically lived in the Patagonia “hoodie jacket” since I purchased it. I have found that it is really easy to maintain a consistent and comfortable temperature in.

    Extremely bizarre fit

    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 135lbs

This jacket fit great... in the hips. Very fitted in the hips, and I'm a pretty slim lady. The rest of the fit was confounding. Huge, loose sleeves were about 4" too long, and the shoulder/chest area was loose and boxy.

    One of the best!

The Black Diamond Cold Forge Jacket is my go to super cold insulation layer. The Black Diamond Cold Forge Jacket (Hoody as well) has both PrimaLoft Gold and Down insulation, it is a blend. Due to this it makes for a all around insulation layer that works well in moisture laden areas where straight down would fail. The Black Diamond Cold Forge Jacket has a DWR pertex shell and a Pertex interior lining. Given that Black Diamond makes top notch gear, in over a year of outdoor, backpacking and even some usage while at the range, I have seen no issue at all. It packs down relatively small, provides great warmth and the fit is spot on for me. If you want a deep winter insulation layer, I say look no further than the Black Diamond Cold Forge Jacket!

    wear it everyday

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 126lbs

My down jacket is a staple because I wear it almost everyday. This jacket has managed to fit the bill! I love having a hoody for those windy days at the cliff. The cut is flattering and long enough to make sure no air gets in while I'm belaying or waiting for my burn.

    Warmest Down Jacket Ever

    • Fit: True to size

Bought this jacket for a friend. She wears it everywhere! The highlights for her in no particular order

    warm
    soft
    and fluffy

She loves the cut of the jacket and especially the lines. She loves the inside of the pockets they are soft and warm.

    Perfect jacket for winter!!
    5 stars

    Awesome jacket!

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 135lbs

Incredibly comfortable and warm jacket. Definitely the nicest puffy I have ever owned. I love the hood, and the stretch gusseted cuffs are perfect. The cuffs get significantly worn out on my other coats, so I love the change of material there.

Perfect for cats to nap in

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 160lbs

This is CAT APPROVED jacket! Keep them cozy while they nap.

I can't begin to tell you how many times I have worn this jacket. It was my favorite of the season. I got the purple and the picture above is true! Its beautiful.
Very warm, very functional. I have worn it a couple times in Utah winter snow and it holds up.
The inside of the jacket has 8 inch by 4 inch pockets, which are awesome for carrying my water or my shoes into the office. Im sure you could find something more productive to do with that.

I have larger shoulders and chest, in Patagonia I am a medium. This I did prefer a large! It fits a small sweater or light hoodie under it without being too bulky.

Will be using this for 2-3 seaons and might just buy a 2nd one

Perfect for cats to nap in

Very soft, but fit was small

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: XLarge
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 165lbs

I really liked this jacket. The red color was beautiful. I usually wear a Large or XLarge so I ordered and XLarge. The sleeves in particular were tight as well as the chest area. The chest didn't bother me but I didn't feel like I could move

    Replacing my Down Sweater!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

This is an awesome down jacket. I'm loving the primaloft down blend insulation. It stays dry and lofty if you are in a wet environment. I have to say the biggest perk of this jacket is the fit. I've never owned a down jacket that allows a feminine, flattering fit. Bravo, BD!
