The Big Air XP Package pairs Black Diamond's updated belay device with the smallest locking carabiner for climbers. The ATC XP belay device features high-friction grooves to assist with braking and catching, and the Mini Pearabiner styles a secure screwgate locker, a snag-free keylock nose, and a large rope-bearing surface for easier belaying and the occasional use as a top-rope anchor.

    Awesome Belay!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a great belay for sport climbing for both in and outdoors. It's help up to a lot of use, and I get use out of it when I go canyoneering as well. Definitely a must have for any climber's arsenal.

    Handy Belay Device

I just bought another one of these, because they are really handy to take up climbing with me. I mostly use an ATC for repelling, because it's so easy to set up. I used my first ATC while repelling with a pretty small canyoneering rope, and it worked pretty well. I would be a little concerned doing bigger repels with a smaller width rope, because it was a bit hard to hold the rope, but that was expected using a small rope. It works perfectly for toprope belaying, and I would recommend newer climbers to start with this belay device.

Use it so much bought 2nd set!

1 month out update. I bought this belay device & carabiner set for myself. I love the colors & belay with confidence and style so much I bought a second set. I highly recommend this Belay & carabiner set to every climber!

My go to belay & carabiner set!

I love my Black Diamond Big Air XP Package / set! It's my go to product & I love my blue / orange combo that matches my climbing harness! Reliable & easy to use!

My go to belay & carabiner set!

      Take climbing a step further

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

When I was just starting out, I didn't have a comparison. I used a standard belay device -- also by Black Diamond -- that didn't have friction to it. The rope moves freely through it and you end up bearing a lot of that weight.

      Not with this one.

The biggest advantage with this one is that you feel like you have more control when on the ground, no matter the size of the climber. The friction is like an extra set of hands helping you out.

It can make a world of difference when you're starting out and still feeling unsure of yourself. For not much more, this has been a well-worth-it purchase for me.

      Solid belay device

The jaws on this make it super easy to hold your climber. its solid metal so its tough but its super light. Ive used it 4 times a week at the gym and outside and I have no complaints or issues. I had a climber fall while I was pulling slack and before I could pull the rope down to lock in fully, it was already stopped. Its super safe when used correctly. I'll buy one again in a couple of years when this one blows out.
