    Inclement epiphany.

When 7mesh Industries set out to bring cycling clothing on par with the rest of the outdoor industry's technology, the Revelation Jacket must have been what the Squamish-based manufacturer had in mind. It borrows Gore-Tex Pro, one of the most advanced materials that we've seen on gear suited for defending against the cold and the wet, and marries it to a fit articulated to accommodate an athletic body in the saddle or while on foot. The Revelation is an epiphany for inclement weather, the only shell you'll need to pack for any trip ranging from seven hours to seven days.

The Revelation's key feature is Gore-Tex's Pro three-layer membrane. 7mesh bills it as the most ruggedly weather resistant material in its line, and Gore itself positions this stuff at snowy summits on extreme alpine boot-packing adventures. It's literally windproof and virtually waterproof, but still strikes a balance between elemental protection and breathability that benefits the active user who's trying to stay dry and warm in unforgiving conditions. The seams are taped (8 millimeters), the hand pockets and side and forearm vents feature watertight zippers, and the collar and chin guard present a soft face to your skin, so you can batten down all the hatches in order to preserve the gains made by the Pro membrane.

Gore's legendary expertise with weather-resistant membranes takes the lion's share of credit for maintaining breathability, but the Micro Grid Backer lining incorporated in the Revelation also deserves credit. It's soft and — of course — breathable, helping the jacket achieve a Ret breathability rating of <6. This puts it at the top of the scale, breathability-wise, and means it transitions between work and rest cycles without suffocating your body or turning your microclimate into a steamy sauna or clammy swamp. If you're on a multi-day adventure, the Revelation will keep you comfortable while grinding up to the snowline and when you stop for an alpine photo op on a windswept plateau or chilly descent through damp undergrowth.

Finally, 7mesh isn't immune to considerations of style, and the Revelation Jacket takes the less-is-more approach to looking good in bad weather. The only embellishments that interrupt its clean look are reflective highlights that help keep you visible in low-light conditions. When the sun, temperature, and rain are all falling at the same time, the Revelation's fit allows for thermal layering. The jacket is finished with hook-and-loop cuffs and literally capped with a removable hood whose low profile lets it nestle unobtrusively beneath your helmet.

    Downpour? Wind? Cold?
Whatever weather you find yourself in while out riding this jacket will keep you covered. I stumbled into it and it is on par with quality you would find in an Arc’teryx shell and this one is designed for biking. I sized up so I could wear it around town too with a layer under in case I can only bring one jacket.
It has a great fit, really long arms and great side/underarm zips for venting as well as wrist vents - which I thought were odd at first but if all your zips are open it channels air down your arms cooling you down while riding. Genius!
Also the hood snaps in so you can stow it away or wear it under your helmet.

    Best bike jacket ever.

Incredibly packable, this jacket outperforms my highest expectations. I've never had a hood I've actually used under my helmet before. Super water repellent, perfectly tailored for a cycling posture, and doesn't scream "HAY I AM WEARING A CYCLING JACKET BEHOLD MY SPANDEX". Worth every penny.

hate exposing my goods, how far down the back does the rear of jacket fall while stretched out? how much of the arm do the sleeves cover when in drop bars or stretched out? want to avoid frozen wrists. what kind of interior is it? is it fleece backed or just tri layer of goretex? is it more of a softshell or a hard shell or both?

There are so many things I love about this jacket:

    - the removable hood

    - it's lightweight and breathes really well (has side zippers for extra ventilation too)

    - it keeps you totally dry

    - it can be used in any season since it isn't insulated

    - the fit is flattering, but loose enough to layer

This is my first piece of 7Mesh clothing, and it definitely won't be the last. I use it for biking, hiking and running errands on stormy days.
