    Leave the road behind.

A real bike-touring weekend means you'll be spending plenty of time in and out of the saddle while you explore out-of-the-way towns, sample little-known local beers, and find the places most visitors don't. Knowing this, 7mesh Industries cut the Recon Men's Cycling Jacket for life on two wheels or two feet, with a slightly relaxed 7 Day fit to accommodate layering and Helix patterning to provide pedal-ready mobility. The Recon also boasts stretch-woven underarm panels for increased breathability and freedom of movement, so it easily transitions from riding down a gravelly forest road to wandering down main street.

While the fit is the Recon's foundation, it's the Windstopper membrane that makes it a true masterpiece. It blends the softness of a midlayer with the water resistance of a softshell and the windproofing of a hard shell, so it will keep you comfortable in cool, blustery, and drizzly weather. For a fabric that can do so much, Windstopper is surprisingly light — the Recon weighs just 300 grams — and has slim, fully-taped seams and a SmoothLock adjustable hem for extra weather protection without added weight or bulk. 7mesh got all the details right, too, like do-it-all zippered hand pockets, a soft brushed internal collar, and reflective details to help you stay visible when you're riding through the twilight to make your next campsite.

    Very good piece! Size M

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I purchased this as a cold weather shell wind blocker. My hope was to keep it in a long sleeve jersey pocket for cold decents.

After using it for a season, i find it fills many more roles than I anticipated. I’ve found It’s small enough to roll up into a Jersey pocket. It’s sheds Fall and Spring rain nicely. It gives me dependable wind block for cold Winter rides. It really performs wonderfully as a bailout jacket on 30 degree days, deployed from my pocket when descending or chilled. It does not breath as well as a heavy jersey, but, it cuts the wind as promised; perfect compromise for windy or freezing days.

Recently, I’ve started using it for snow biking, worn over a long sleeve merino wool base layer in 20 degree weather. I’ve used it in a gusty snow shower at 8,000 feet elevation and after an hour of steady climbing I remained dry inside. I love this jacket.

I am 6 foot tall and my winter weight hovers over 170 lbs. The medium size gives me a comfortable snug fit over a long sleeve base layer. It fits just right around my 33 inch waist—not too tight. I have long arms, yet, the length is perfect. The collar is sized just right—loose enough for comfort with minimal draft. The quality of construction is exceptional.

I find myself reaching for the Recon jacket for many of my coldest rides—gravel bike, road bike, and snow bike! Very happy with this purchase.

    The best lightweight softshell ever

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I couldn't decide between the Recon, Resistance, and Revelation jackets, so I went with one of each. This piece is very similar to the Recon but adds a little warmth with the Windstopper Softshell material. Fully seam sealed and basically waterproof (but Gore wont let them say this) its a prefect foul weather piece for the weather of BC and the pacific NW.

Fairly packable and fits true to size. Again, order up if you want to use it as an everyday piece and not just for riding.
