Transition Elbow Guards
The Transition Elbow Guards are the lightest, most flexible elbow pads
that 7 Protection makes, so they're perfect for riders who are looking for moderate protection in a pedal-friendly package. The Transition ditches straps
and cinches in favor of a simple, stretchy pull-on sleeve, which
incorporates mesh panels for ventilation and plenty of spandex for a
secure fit. A soft one-millimeter pad covers the kneecap for impact
protection, while soft foam around the edges provides abrasion protection
while allowing plenty of airflow.

Lightweight Guard with Great Padding
- I returned this product before using it
First some important information: I have very skinny arms (both my biceps & forearms are 10” around at the widest parts). These numbers don’t seem that small when you look at the size charts but in reality most elbow guards in a sz. Small or even XS barely grip my biceps/forearms. So looking for elbow guards for me was more about finding something that would fit rather than picking my favorite design. Fortunately the world is awash with lightweight MTB elbow guard choices (I tried on over a dozen models just to find a couple that might work). I decided to try the Transition since they supposedly run smaller vs. the other models I already tried on and found the fit to be too loose (e.g., Alpinestars Paragon in an XS, Dakine Slayer, Fox Launch Enduro, POC VPD Air Sleeve, Troy Lee Raids…). The Transition are a moderately-priced, simple sleeve-type design with an emphasis on impact protection (the pad is a 10mm thick D3o-like material which is cupped & articulated to hug your elbow really well). They also have many other features typical to this type of design (e.g., breathable mesh on the inner arm, lycra above/below the pad, abrasion resistant material over the pad, and silicone strips at both openings to hold the sleeve in place). Surprisingly the pad is not very well ventilated (I counted three perforations) which is sorta at odds with the breathability feature touted by these lightweight guards. The Transition do indeed fit more snugly than most of the other models I had tried on, but it was a bit off (they were a bit loose at the bicep, while the forearm was so tight that the inner sleeve’s mesh material looked like it was going to burst at the seams). The other issue I had with these guards was that the inner sleeve’s mesh material was so sheer that it seemed like it might tear if placed within the vicinity of anything pointy or sharp (e.g., some Velcro in my gear bag). So I ended up returning these. I’d recommend these guards to anyone that values impact protection over maximum ventilation especially if you have small arms and/or relatively bigger biceps vs. forearms (and you’ll treat the inner arm’s mesh material gently).
