Why We Like The 686 Waterproof Hoodie

For that relaxed look that still delivers on performance, we pull on the 686 Waterproof Hoodie. The water-blocking membrane stops snow from soaking in and winds from slicing through, while the fleece backing delivers a touch of warmth. On balmy bluebird days, we open the underarm vents to turn up the air. And when fresh flakes start to fall, we cinch the hood over our beanie.

This thing is doooooope

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
XXL

Weight:
250

On a bluebird day this and a base layer is all you need. I just used it with high wind and negative wind chills to snowblow my drive with just a sweater and a warm puffy and I'm sweating. It kept the wind out and the hood kept my face protected though it was understandably a bit big as it's made for a helmet. Now obviously on colder windier days out on the slopes I would go with something like an actual shell but on most days when you just need something like a hoody and not all the bells and whistles like a skirt or wrist gaiters, even with some wind this thing will crush it. Pockets have a hoody pocket that zips on both ends and a middle belly pocket with zip. Ample room for smaller things. I'm a bigger guy at 6'6" and 250 and the XXL is a bit roomy and baggy but I actually like it that way. The pink one is actually a very nice color and not overly... .. . out there is you will. I'm trying not to sound bad here but it's a masculine duller pink.

Works

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
L & XXL
Height:

Pros- works as advertised. It is waterproof & wind proof. The lift ticket pocket can hold keys. The entrance/exit zipper is a double zipper, so it can act as ONE pit zip/massive heat dump. Cons- not the “best” hood, but it does the job. No extra cinch cords or straps for the hood, so it bellows out when wind is coming at you, even when you cinch down the hood strings. Every company should copy “Tobe” ‘s hood design! Right sleeve has no pit zip. The electronic pocket does not have a waterproof zipper. My giant phone does not fit. I wear a large to XL and the L fit fine. But I also purchased an XXL as a big parka to throw over my clothes on bad weather days. For example, I’m getting hit with 60 mph winds on a Tuesday here in the Aleutian Islands chain. In the states, this wind with 2” of rain / snow/ sleet an hour would make headline news. But to us Alaskans, it is just a Tuesday and we still have to go to work. The XXL is perfect for this, minus the hood that balloons up in direct facing wind.
