I had the shell version for 4 winters, very good pants up till the end. I run hot and so I bought these being a little skeptical about the body mapped insulation. My skepticism was proved wrong and I am a believer! These pants keep you warm and dry on the lift, but cool down when coming down the mountain. I do wish these had the outside thigh vent to couple with the crotch vents and then I would never overheat on those sunny days. All around 686 made a great replacement for a previously amazing product.

This is one of my all time fav Pants I've owned, I like them so much I bought them in two colors over the past few years. The articulated fit makes for perfect range of motion weather riding or hiking and the 20K waterproofing makes them super bulletproof & windproof against all weather conditions. I love the strategically placed insulation in the knees and butt! It's great when sitting on frozen chairs or speeding down the hill but still super breathable when working hard on a powder day! These pants have a great pocket set up too with zippered Cargos, front and back pockets.

Honestly this is my favorite pant I've owned. I usually dont get super cold and don't need a fully insulated pant, but sitting on the cold chairlift or snow is certainly felt with a normal shell. These pants have insulation just in the butt and knee area, and are shells everywhere else! So you don't feel a cold chair or the cold air on your knees when hauling ass on a cold day. Also I've never gotten wet with the 20k and I do split boarding and hiking trying to find the pow, so goretex isn't necessary
