Zipp Speed Weaponry sent its best man 1000 years into the future and told him to bring back the most impressive bike wheel technology he could find. His discoveries resulted in the creation of Zipp Speed Weaponry's 202 Wheel Set. The 202 offers climbing power and aerodynamic performance unparalleled in today's cycling world. The recipe? Carbon Bridge technology for impact resistance and increased lateral stiffness, reduced spokes for a mere 1060g total weight, and a 32mm-deep, 23mm-wide rim that slices through crosswinds. Zipp rode the newly redesigned 202 Wheel Set on cobbles, raced it in the Tour de France, and submitted it to drop tests—all with damn near ecstatic reviews.

Bottom Line: For climbing ability that borders flotation and strength without the weight penalty, take a ride on Zipp's 202 Wheel Set.

You'll have to talk to a Backcountry gearhead for specifics, but Zipp hasn't started rolling out their '09's quite yet, and Backcountry hasn't been stocking bike items all that long. Those two factors lead me to believe that these are the 2008 wheels.

Campy or Shimano refers to the freehub body. You will want to order whichever matches the rest of the equipment on your bike. Otherwise the rear cassette will not fit onto your wheels, which would be sad.Correct: Yet the option drop down does not list either of the two choices. Therefor the question was mostly hypothetical for the Gurus to examine the fact that they neglected to list the options. JL

What are the benefits of a carbon fiber wheel set and are they durable? If I get a scratch will they be ruined?

The benefits are for the most part purely in weight. The 202's are one of the lightest wheelsets out there. That said they are not particularly durable and wouldn't be a great wheelset for training on. Also these are tubular wheels and require gluing the tires onto the rim, something not for the faint of mechanical heart. If you are doing lots and lots of climbing and don't mind sacrificing a bit of durability these are awesome wheels. For a more durable version go for the Zipp 404 clincher version that has an aluminum rim with a carbon faring on it to make it really aerodynamic.Alternately, you could get a set of Flash Point FP60s, which are very similar to ZIPP 404 Clinchers (same rim depth, same clincher rim, made by the same company) except the manufacturing process is less complex (no dimpling like the flagship ZIPP wheels), and they consequentially cost around $1300 for a set.
