Zipp's stiffest bar.
Zipp's SLC2 Carbon Handlebar is a go-to for triathletes, time trialists, and sprinters alike. Why? Well, because the bars' stout tops maintain the clamp area's 31.8 diameter throughout much of the width. So, whether you need strength for clip-on extensions, or stiffness for laying down watts, the SLC2 is up to the task.
The SLC2 handlebar is the stiffest in Zipp's lineup -- a feat that was accomplished by maintaining the 31.8mm clamping diameter across 60% of its width. Powerful riders will appreciate the added stiffness, which is especially noticeable when you're pulling hard on the drops to leverage power from your legs. And the added benefit of this style of construction is that the SLC2 is the only carbon fiber handlebar that Zipp approves for use with clip-on aero bars. So, if you're looking to run Zipp's VukaClip extensions, this is your handlebar.
Despite the obvious stiffness, Zipp's VCLC gives the SLC2 an added boost of comfort. VCLC is short for Visco-Elastic Constrained Layer Control. In essence, it's an elastic layer that's incorporated between the layers of rigid carbon fiber. The result is that high frequency vibrations are dissipated before they're able to reach your hands. Ultimately, Zipp claims that this feature provides a 10% reduction in road vibration.
With a weight that hovers around 190 grams, it's understandable why you might wonder about the durability of the SLC2 handlebar. However, quell your fears, as the SLC2 was subjected to EFBe Laboratory's extensive testing, and passed with its top performance rating. Basically, these bars are tough, so you're able to concentrate on riding, not worrying about your equipment.
The Zipp SLC2 Carbon Handlebar is available with a Traditional Bend and in the sizes 44 and 46cm. Please note: Zipp measures its handlebars center to center at the hoods.
