Dominator SPPX Goggles - Polarized Photochromic

Reach for the Zeal Dominator SPPX Goggles and you'll never again have sacrifice a powder lap just to swap out lenses. Polarized-photochromic lenses automatically adjust tint to enhance brightness in low-light, and cut glare when the sun blasts through the clouds. Other goggles might turn into a foggy mess when your face gets warm, but oversized front vents and an anti-fog coating keeps the Dominator's clear of moisture. Pull these helmet-compatible goggles over your brain bucket and see clearly whether it's bluebird or bombing.

  • Spherically contoured lenses (the S in SPPX) match the natural contour of your eyes to reduce image distortion and increase peripheral vision
  • The Xtreme Photochromic-Polarized (the PPX in SPPX) lens automatically adjusts the tint of the lens from 13 to 43-percent light transmission when activated by changing UV conditions so you can use one lens for both bright and low light overcast days
  • Xtreme Low Light (the X in SPPX) technology extends the low light capability of Zeal's standard photochromic lenses and allows the lens tint to transition from light-enhancing yellow to high contrast rose
  • Polarized technology helps to eliminate glare on snow and ice, deepen color contrast, and reduce eye strain on bluebird days
  • Permanent No Fog technology uses a coating on the interior of the front lens to reduce the buildup of moisture and the coating won't rub off over time

Bottom Line: Versatility defined.

Dominators VS. Detonators

By:
October 9, 2011

I have to disagree with the previous review.
It's not clear from the descriptions here on Backcountry (the sizing on these is actually labeled wrong), but the Dominator and Detonator goggles are virtually the same, the only real difference being sizing. Even though it says "Medium/Large" in the description of these goggles here on BC...the Zeal Optics site lists these (the Dominators) as "Small" and the Detonators as "Medium/Large".
It actually says "For smaller faces"...that's why I picked them.
(Note...as of October 2011, the Zeal Optics site is down till November 2011 for some reason...)
I'm a little dude (5'6"/140) with a small face so I got these and they fit fine.
Meaning...they fit correctly on my face...foam seal where it's supposed to be (comfortably over the bridge of the nose, sealed tight around the sides of my eyes, but yet does not restrict my vision.)
Do they look big? Yeah...they do...they're goggles.
(I'll post a pic...)
I don't want to assume the previous reviewer didn't check his product against the pics (the Detonators don't have the little vent bracket dealies below the eyes like the Dominators do...) but I suppose it's possible BC shipped the Detonators instead of the Dominators? I don't know...just sayin.
Cause I have a small face and these fit.

Anyway, I love these things.
I used them on Denali this season and they held up well.
If you look closely at the pic, you can see the left side of the lens is popping out of the frame. That's the only issue I've had with them, but it was my fault...I crammed them into my pack too tightly...getting them seated back in properly at 19 thousand feet aint easy. And now they sorta have a bad habit of popping out.
They've only fogged once on me since I've had them.
The photochromatic lenses work like a charm.
The only downside of these (to me) was the gold...can't do the bling, man...so I painted the gold parts red.

Great goggles...

Nice, but not small enough

I returned 'em. I really wanted to like these goggles, lens is great to look through, and they have all the fancy features I wanted....But they are way, way too big. No way would they fit anyone (particularly female) with a small face, if also wearing a helmet. They felt gigantic even without the helmet, for me. Too bad Zeal doesn't make a smaller size that actually fits small faces. Then they would have kept my money, and I would have awesome goggles.
