The Zag Skis Big 84 Alpine Ski not only terrorizes backcountry powder stashes, but also performs with finesse when conditions turn to crap. Zag's unique ski shape—the tip is extra long and extra wide—allows for incredible flotation. The Big 84's shape tapers from 134mm at the tip to 84mm at the waist, making for a drastic sidecut that you just can't find on mass-produced big-mountain skis. Instead of skiing like a barge like straight fat skis do through mank, steeps or the groomed, the 84 skis with speedboat-like agility. The tail is far thinner than the tip, furthering the smooth handling by preventing hooking when exiting turns. Zag skis are crafted with care, as evidenced by the 84's tough ABS sidewalls and long-lasting high-density wood core.

Bottom Line: All-mountain agility in a big ski.

The most fun ever...

What an energetic ski! It's light, soft, and snappy. They are the polar opposite of the Dynastar Legend Pro. I took them Heli skiing with the Wasatch Powder Birds yesterday.
We had about a foot of fresh, and they ate it up. Lot's of float for me (155lb), and very quick turns even in the crud.
But they are not the heavy steam rollers that plow through the crud like a Legend Pro. What really surprised me is how much fun they are in on-piste. They carve like crazy, and do a decent job of holding on ice. They even make a nice bump ski. I bought this thing to be a Vermont woods ski, and I'm exceptionally happy with the ski for this purpose.

This is an amazing ski in deep powder, of course it turns with no effort due to the side cut, and it has amazing float. It also skis hardpacked groomers and windpacked wild snow without problems, so it is truly an all-round ski. It takes some getting used to, due to its unusual shape, but once you figure it out, the ski becomes your friend.
