The Yakima Viper Bike Mount carries any bike with 9mm stainless steel Long Throw Skewer and is compatible with single and dual piston disk brakes thanks to its unique die cast head. Mounts equally well to round or square crossbars. Drive as fast as you want, the Viper is completely secure at high speeds and on rough roads. Quick to install, secure, and fits the widest range of tires and rims with new wheeltray and wheelstrap.

I bought this rack about five years ago. It is pretty sturdy overall and gets the job done, but I find it to be more of a hassle than it's worth. The front rear must be removed and the mount has to be adjusted for each individual bike fork, meaning that if you use many different bikes, it has to be adjusted every time. It is not compatible with thru-axle forks.
I prefer the Yakima Kind Cobra rack over the Viper.

It will work just fine with a 16" bike. When my kids were younger I put a 12" bike on this rack. Now we take their 20" bmx'ers with us camping all the time using this rack.

I bought 3 of these back in 2000 and they have never failed. Since I do not leave my rack system on my vehicle all the time, the racks look just as good as the day I bought them. The locking system is easy and the clamps are super strong. The bikes do not wiggle. Yakima makes great products, this one is not an exception.

I think it's pretty comparable to similar Thule or Rocky Mtn model racks. It will fit both round and square bars.

Classic, thoughtful Yakima design. Easy to install, and good for most any bike out there.
I have a Yakima rack bar specific to Subaru. It is crescent shaped
I have a Yakima rack bar specific to Subaru. It is crescent shaped and tapered. Are there bike mounts that fit the bar? I have noticed that the mounts displayed are attached to round bars.

This rack only fits round or square bars, so no factory or even the Subaru/Yakima bars. Subaru might offer a similar version for their bars, so check with your dealers, or go with a rack that can fit factory bars.

just put these on and they work great they are rock solid and i wouldnt even know the bikes were up there if it was not for the wind noise but i dynamated my roof and that took care of that

Yakima makes the best roof carrying bike systems on the market. I have used them exclusively for over 20 years. I needed a new style to accommodate the beefier dropouts on today's new forks, and the Viper fills the bill ideally. It is the best thought out and most secure Yakima mount yet.

Having a low car, this bike mount stabilizes my bike nicely without any top heavy feeling or wobble. It is quick to use and has a nice low profile.

Although newer designs are getting fancier, this rack has treated me well for years. Great for keeping clearance height to a minimum on taller vehicles as well.
