Are there any options for locking on this? Both locking the bike to the rack and the rack to the vehicle? Or just using standard bike locks/cable locks to be figured out by the user?

Responded on

You can secure the rack to the vehicle using the Hitch Lock but as far as the bikes go a cable lock is probably in your best interest.

Write your question here...will it clear the spare tire on a fifth wheel camper

Responded on

Depends on the size and location of the spare. If this one doesn't work, there are other model from Yakima and Thule that are designed to work around a rear spare of an SUV. They should work for you.

Big Up Big up it's Stick Stick up!

Awesome budget tray rack for those looking for a bitch mount. Assembly took me approximately 30 minutes and they include all the tools you need, although the allen wrench is junk, and if your not careful you may strip the hex fitting on the bolt. The tray stows up out of the way and is very simple to load bikes onto. If your not looking to spendd and alot but want a rack with trays this is the way to go. And the best feature on it is the bottle opener for talking shop after your ride.

is the rack far enough from the car that I can have a bike with wide handlebars ?

Responded on

Yakima's info says there is approximately 13" between the bike tray and hitch bolt hole. What I would do is take a tape measure and measure from where the main stem on the bike is out to the farthest point of the handlebars and if it is under that you should be safe.

Perfect, but only one change

I really enjoy the bike rack. There is one change that I would make though....I wished it would allow you to put your tailgate down without hitting the rack when you are not using it. In both the Subaru Baja and Toyota Tacoma, I have to take off the rack to be able to put my tailgate down or the tailgate will hit the wheel gards of the rack when it is in the folded position. Other than that....it is great!

What size hitch does it fit- 1 1/4 or 2 inch?
Does it curve up from the hitch to give the bikes better clearance on hills so they don't scrap? (I have a steep driveway)
thanks

Glenda
the stick up fits both 1 1/4 and 2 inch receivers and the attachment to the hitch is curved up to increase ground clearance. It's a great rack and easy to use but I wouldn't recomend it for carbon fiber bikes. They should only be attached by the wheels or the drop outs.

Satisfied w/ our first bike rack

This has been good for getting our bikes around. We haven't used it off road, so I can't speak for it's function there, but on regular roads & expressways it works great. Keeps bikes in place / stable, no rattling around. One negative, if left on vehicle, the latch begins to stick.

How far from the tailgate does this extend?...

How far from the tailgate does this extend? Could I fit a bike on if I had a spare tire extending to about a foot past the end of the hitch?

Responded on

So much depends on how far the hitch box extends and how far the spare tire extends. Maybe you should look at the sparetime rack which attaches to your spare tire.

Rack'em up

I'm pleased with the overall design and functionality of the rack. There is one small thing I would recommend changing:

It would be nice if the mast (part that clamps on top frame of bike) locked in place for both positions (during transport of bikes) and also when it's in (the folded up) position.

As it is, there is a good deal of free travel where the mast can swing forward hitting the back of the vehicle when folded up.

A quick remedy for this is using a bungee cord.
