Sick of spending an hour strapping your bikes over, under, and around your spare tire? Us too, which is why we've slapped the Yakima Sparetime 2-Bike Rack onto the donut of our goat-mobile to help us make quick and easy jaunts to the trails. The Spartime bolts quickly and securely to your spare tire's mounting bolts, and it comes with a universal mounting plate that fits to almost every lug pattern under the sun. It's made of rugged steel for durability and holds two bikes in anti-sway cradles to prevent banging. Yakima built in two bottle openers to help you crack open some brews after your ride, and included a locking cable to keep your babies safely strapped to the rack. The arms of the Sparetime also fold down when they're not in use, so you won't accidentally ram them through the garage door when you roll into the driveway.

  • Mounts to spare tire's mounting
  • Universal mounting plate fits most lugs
  • Locking cable
  • Powder-coated steel construction
  • Anti-sway cradle
  • Fold-away arms
  • Two integrated bottle openers

Does this bike rack offset for vehicles that have an offset spare tire?

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was a little nervous at picking up these spare tire racks. We have an old van, and were concerned that the mounting plate wouldn't have the proper hole configuration. I'd much rather have something that bolted on, rather than wrapped around the tire then secured by hooks.

Turns out the mounting plate has tons of holes, and can be rotated so a good fit is fairly likely. The two of us got it all set up in a few minutes and it looks/works great!

This rack also locks your spare tire to your car, which is a nice bonus

worked great on cross country road trip

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

This was so easy to install on my daughter's 2005 Honda CRV. Pop the spare off, insert the mounting plate, put spare back on - that's all there is to it. We then drove from Utah to Virginia with her bike on the back. Loved the built in locking cable feature. Only adjustment we had to make was to back off on over-tightening the rubber straps. in the heat of Kansas one broke loose - and that's because it was stretched too thin (my fault) and the hot rubber let go. Once we backed it down a notch it never let go again.

Great product. Not for me.

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it

I ordered this rack and it did not work for me , but it looked like a great product. Very easy to return. Thanks Backcountry!

Got yakima spare time for my 2006 rav4 after reading many reviews. Fits easily and snugly onto spare tire. Plus, a bonus is that now my tire is locked onto my car with this rack. Didn't realize before that my spare would be so easy to steal! Fits great, works great. Shipping from was SUPER FAST! Ordered it Wednesday morning and had it Friday afternoon ( in Illinois ). If you have a rav4, this is the rack you want!
