The Spare Joe is the newest addition to Yakima's family of rear-mount bike racks. This little guy is made for SUVs. He quickly straps right to your spare tire and holds two bicycles. This rack adjusts like a champ—he offsets easily, allowing you to center your bikes on the vehicle. Hook-and-loop straps outfit the Spare Joe's anti-sway cradles which hold your bikes firmly in place.

Bottom Line: Yakima's trunk-mounting Joe family welcomes the easily installed and very popular Spare Joe Bike Rack.

Overall it's a good value for the money. The directions for installation weren't the clearest but I figured it out (took about 20 minutes to install). I have a Honda CRV with the offset spare tire - the rack adjusts for an offset spare so that seems to work okay. My bike tire still sticks out about 6 inches beyond the driver side of the car but that didn't cause any problems on the major road trip I just went on. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that some of the major parts are plastic - we'll have to see over time if they hold up.

Spare Joe Bike Rack

Works quite well. It was easy to set up on the trailer spare tire. I made a shim from a 2 X 2 that I secured between the back of the tire and the rack part that hooks around the tire so that the front of the rack was pulled closer to the front of the tire. In this way, the bike rested closer to the tire which put stress on everything due to less leverage. My tire is not small-- LT215/75R15. I took a 1000 mile plus trip and the rack was great. It didn't loosen or give any problems.
