'Superior' Sky Box!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Check out this picture of Mt. Superior in Little Cottonwood Canyon with the Sky Box in the foreground.

If it's good enough for the Backcountry.com Subaru fleet, it's good enough for you!

Would this size allow one bike rack to fit to the side on a 2013 Subaru Outback?

The Skybox 12 is 92" long x 24" wide x 16" tall. If you have factory cross bars, it needs at least 24". If it's too tight a fit, or you don't have factory cross bars, you can always add some rail towers and add Yakima cross bars that are much wider.

I have a 2003 Toyota 4Runner and am trying to decide between the Yakima Sky Box 16 vs. the 18. I assume you burn more gas with the 18, but my main concern is whether there is enough room on top of my 4Runner for the 18.

Yeah for sure. This box is still only 36" in the 18. Definitely not as wide as your 4Runner, but will take up most of your roof space.

I just purchased the Sky Box 18 for my 2006 Highlander Limited. It fits fine and doesn't interfere with the back hatch. I don't think you'll notice much difference on the drag between the two.

Best box in the business

I bought the Skybox 12 in fall 2008 & mounted it on my Subaru Forester. I love this thing so much. There is plenty of space in the 12 for 2 snowboards, 1 pair of skis, 3 sets of ski poles & other random stuff like shovels.

One of the things that hooked me on the Yakima was the fact that you could mount it on either side. I have mine mounted as close to the driver side as possible. Works great.

The locks & latch system are simple to use. The box lid stays in the up position when loading/unloading. Doesn't seem to hurt gas mileage too too much. Quiet on the road too.

All in all a fantastic product. Money well spent. Go for it
