Description

The Sidewinder mount makes loading your tandem a piece of cake.

The Yakima Sidewinder Tandem Bike Mount is a convenient one person tandem loading system with an easy swing out skewer arm. The Sidewinder firmly holds all tandem frame shapes more securely than a wheel-tray design, and easily holds any 9mm tandem fork using a stainless steel locking long-throw shewer with single side adjustability. Protects bottom mounted cables with unique padded boom cradle and quick release ratcheting straps, and is designed to clear hatches and flip up rear doors on most vehicles. Mounts equally well to round or square crossbars, includes handlebar strap. Full system security with SKS cores-sold seperately.

Will the Sidewinder mount onto the Yakima Universal Mighty Mount?

I just purchased a 2009 Subaru 2.5I STI 5 door with a factory roof rack and would like to make ensure compatibility before purchasing the tandem rack. Thx/Rod

Our screamer fits a sidewinder rack well. The bike centerstand requires removal and there is a tab on the bottom of the frame that looks like a problem but just sits in the cradle. We have used it this way for about 5 years.

would it take a Bike Friday triple ?

The structure should support the triple, but there's a good chance that it'll extend beyond your vehicle substantially. This causes huge wind drag problems and can absolutely tank your car's mileage when you're hauling at 80mph down the interstate.

We love this rack! It's a bit distinctive when driving down the road though. (My husband says it looks like we have an arm to attach to the "mother ship" on top of our car.) It's very easy to load the bike (takes less than 2 minutes) and we're able to open the back of our Subaru Outback Sport while the bike is on top without any trouble at all.

I doubted I would be able to put my (rather heavy) tandem beach cruiser on top of my Lexus RX400h by myself as the Sidewinder ads claimed, but it is true. The Sidewinder is everything I needed. Easy to use, secure, and compact. I highly recommend it.

Cool design - best that i have seen out there - easy to install - fairly easy to load - but it doesn't have a way to lock it to the rack system like the copperhead bike carrier does - someone could, granted with some effort - steal both my $3000 tandem and the $300 carrier with a just a screwdriver.

Best design for tandem bicycle transport, for both ease of loading/unloading, as well as securely holding bike in position while mounted on the carrier. Very pleased....

We love this bike rack! We have been using a Thule since we got our tandem three years ago, and it had so much left-right motion and rattles. Also, it could not be locked. The Yakima is so secure and can be locked. It was easy to assemble and is very easy to use.
