They simply go around the bars but the attachment hardware is inside the box itself so when the box is locked you cannot undo the mounts from the bars. So as long as your bars are locked to your car and your box is locked, your box remains secure.

Very large roof box. Great for taking stuff up to a cabin for the season or week long familty vacations. Fits on top of the car to roof racks designed to hold the weight in the box. Very easily attached.
The box weighs in at 42 lbs.

70" + 15" = Nope
As you can see from the sideview image on the following link, the box is 15" tall and essentially sits on top of the crossbars.
