    Great fit

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

    I was worried these would be difficult to install but in reality these mounts were incredibly easy to install and look great on my car. The bars fit perfectly with these mounts and my cargo rack fits even better sitting on top of it all.

    Railgrab bars for 2014 VW Tiguan

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

    Just bought these bars for our Tiguan with factory rails, and these bars fit perfectly no problems what so ever. They are relatively easy to put on, it took me about 10-15 minutes the first time since i was being really careful. Very happy with the purchase, I also bought the locks which are super easy also.

    Yakima Railgrab towers

      These things fit great on my 2011 Subaru Forester. I had zero problems installing them and they were rock solid on the factory luggage rails. Then I bought a Subaru XV Crosstrek and they did not fit as well. They felt sloppy and I had to overtighten them to make them fit. The additional smaller sized clamping jaws were too small but the medium jaws were too sloppy. I have no idea why neither sized jaws were really appropriate for the job? So I would give these a 5 star for the Forester but just 3 stars for the XV Crosstrek

      Its not fancy but its wicked effective, worked on my Nissan Pathfinder which has the thickest side rails I have ever seen. My advice is buy the locks not just for security but looks the plastic caps are ugly and 2 fell out in the first few weeks.

      Well worth the money

        Bought these for my 07 Dodge Durango with the factory side rails, The iinitial set up took about a half hour to complete so now once that was done they are simple to take off and put back on as needed. I don't like driving around with them installed being they are a little noise. Overall great product

        Yakima Railgrab

          These towers do just what the name suggests, grab on to your factory rails. I added them to a Subaru Outback. Installation was straight forward, with the required Allen wrench included. To install, there first is a height adjustment, then a bolt to tighten to grab the rail, and another bolt to tighten to clamp down on the bar. End caps are included, so no need to buy extras. Pick up a round bar and some locking cores, and the system is ready for a rack.

          Fits just about any factory rail

            Great design, solid material, has numerous adjustments and will fit just about any factory rail. Once I got it I noticed these are on a lot of cars and all attached to the factory rail.
            I got this for a 2006 BMW X3.
            It is worth getting the 6 or 8 locks pack, so you have one key for everything.

            Just What I Needed

              Getting a canoe as a wedding gift meant it was time to invest in a roof rack. I weighed my options between Thule and Yakima and eventually went with the Yakima RailGrab due to the ability to switch vehicles in the future if necessary (as long as it has side rails). The multiple claw sets that come with the system allow for a fit more geared towards your specific vehicle.

              After a couple weeks of use I can say the RailGrab tower set works great on my 1998 Subaru Forester. The towers feel solid and haven't shown any sign of moving or sliding even after transporting my 80+ lb. canoe down the highway at 70 mph.

              The initial set-up wasn't too bad. Once I understood the instructions and how the individual components came together it went pretty quick. It took me a little bit longer to get it dialed in just how I wanted it but now that it's on I shouldn't have to move it ever.

              I'm a little disappointed that the locks are sold separately. It seems that if they are such an integral part-- which if your living anywhere where your rack is in danger of being stolen or you want that extra security-- they are, then they should come as a kit. However, one advantage of buying locks separately is that you can buy enough to lock the rack as well as accessories without having multiple keys-- just make sure you buy enough.

              If you're looking into a rack system I would definitely recommend the RailGrab for anyone who has side rails on their vehicle, especially if you want the ability to transfer it to another vehicle in the future.

              One thing that is also important to ask Backcountry.com is if this set comes with the medium claw or if you have to buy it separately. Yakima started packaging the medium claw with the system in fall of 2010 so make sure you are getting that included.

              Just another note to 1998-2002 Subaru Forester drivers-- despite what I read from numerous other sources, the medium claw was NOT what I needed. I tried it compared to the small claw and found the small claw fit more appropriately. Make sure you establish all points of contact that Yakima recommends.

              RailGrab Towers Great for a Ford Flex !!!

                Towers work great with the short clips on our 2010 Ford Flex. Just traveled 600 miles from the east coast to the mid-west with our yakima cargo box attached with our rail grab towers with no issues. It took about an hour to set up for the first time and figure out where the towers needed to be on this car but have no issues after the initial setup.

                Would recommend to anyone looking to put racks up on a Flex!!!

                Subaru Legacy Install

                  Took about 15 minutes to install but that included removing the factory cross bars. Not necessary but it looks much better without it. Just make sure you measure the overhang of the Yakima cross bars so that you get them close to even

                  Is this price for 1 bar or the pair/kit. 2 bars and 4 railgrab? What is the length?

                  This is a set of four rail grab towers. You buy a pair of bars, your choice of length, separate. You will also want to buy lock cores for your rack, at least four. If you have quite a bit of roof gear, buying a larger set of core locks makes locking and keeping gear safe with one key.

                  I lost the Allen wrench for fastening the racks. Anyone know what size it is and what the lengths of the wrench is?

                  I think that as long as the length is sufficient for you to be able to provide enough torque to fasten the assembly onto the roof rails, you should be fine. Same goes with the allen key size; you should be able to just find one that is the same size, as I don't believe there are any proprietary allen key sizes, I think the one Yakima provides is merely a convenience and courtesy for the purchaser.

                  I am having trouble finding a rack that will fit on the factory rails for my 2011 Kia Sorrento. I was assured another brand would fit only to find it didn't.                   It is a perfect fit! These are very easy to install and the raised rails on the Highlander are strong enough to hold the maximum weight according to Yakima (165lbs). The recommended the bar length is 48", but depending on what you want to carry will really determine the length of the crossbar (be aware the the longer the bar, more chance of someone hitting their head when exiting the vehicle). Instructions are included in the packaging along with everything else you need to install these towers. Again you will need to get the towers and bars along with any accessory you will need/want.

                  This is the replacement product for the Lowrider. I have the Lowrider and love it. How is this rack different/better?

                  I have the railgrab and I've been pretty happy with them. I believe the railgrab fits a wider variety of factory racks than the low riders did. Which means these fit on my old subaru (which with lowriders would have too) and on my girlfriend's newer subaru, which the lowriders did not fit. Because of the "pinching" type set up, it should work with rails that are flush against the car (something the lowrider couldn't do). Not really sure one is better than the other! It does seem to be pretty sturdy though - I've got a big car top box and no problems at freeway speeds!
