The Yakima Q Clips - 1 pair, are essential to mount Q Towers and are designed specifically for your vehicle. If you're not sure which Q clips you need (depends on your vehicle), please call us and we'll be glad to help, 800-409-4502.
Get your right size for your car and it will do the job. Never had a single problem with my roof rack. Don't skimp and buy some old ones or ones that aren't designed for your car. It could be bad news
Does anybody know if these will fit a 2008 volvo c-30. I have no doubt that I can get a front rack mounted in the front doors, but the rear rack is my main question. Volvo has a groove already built into the car, at the top of the rear window (no door) but I am afraid that it will only work with volvo manufactured racks.

They are. However, you need to select the Q78 on the drop down menu as you order. As you can see there are several different clips depending on the car you drive. These fit into the door jam of your car when mated with Yakima's Q-Tower. Remember you need to get a total of four clips, or X2 sets of clips. Refer to yakima.com for any questions.
I just posted a review and had the wrong number - Q124 works for both front and back of the Prius, not the 5's as suggested by Yakima. I think the original specifications for the Prius were the 124's and somewhere along the way they changed it to the Q5, which didn't seem to quite fit. In any case the clips work!
I accidentaly bought the wrong clips for my 2007 Corolla. I bought the 48' cross bars with a pair of Q 19 clips. Do I just need to by the Q 31 clips for the back and the Q 91 clips for the front or do I need to buy a new rack system? Are the towers included ok to keep as well? and are the locks universal for all the roof rack systems or is each one different depending on the Q clips? Thank you
My results said you need a set of Q99-E clips in the front, Q31-A clips in the back, 48" cross bars and a 44' fairing if you choose to use one, and of course the towers. Again, this for was a naked roof 2007 Corolla 4 door. Locks are universal, it is recommended to buy a lager quantity then you think you need because if you buy additional ones later, you will have to tote more keys around with you.
Using Q106 clips on my '00 Maxima. Fit just fine, though concerned about possible door seal compression/tearing over time. Believe these are the best solution on the market, just aren't perfect. Happy to have them though, they do the job quite well.
I have an old yakima rack w round bars that I'm trying to fit onto my 05 Prius and simply need to know what clamps or footings I need to get. Can anyone help?
Worked like a charm - so far no problems. Had some initial trouble figuring out how the heck these things were going to secure the rack to the roof of my vehicle as they didn't seem to grab on as I would expect. Turns out they make the rack "clamp" on to the roof sort of like a vise. Some better instructions explaining this would have helped. Only thing I don't agree with is the price. Way too expensive for 2 small pieces of metal in my opinion, plus you need 2 pair!
"Works Ok" and rated 3 stars, or "Worked like a charm". Did you give them 3 stars just because you didn't understand how they worked, or because they didn't work?
I own a '00 Honda Prelude. Q85 clips have been discontinued for some time now, yet my quest for a decent rack continues.. My question are.. 1. Do you know where I might be able to find Q85 clips? 2. Is there another clip I could use in place on Q85?
Well Ryan, if they are no longer sold retail then your best bet is somewhere like Ebay or even used somewhere like Craigslist. You may also try contacting Yakima and asking them if a different clip would work.
The ordering process was very easy and straight forward. I ordered thru Amazon, compared prices, and found backcountry.com to be the lowest for the Yakima items that I was looking for. No taxes and free shipping!!! The items came in approximately one week and were packaged securely. Instructions were simple! I have had the rack for about a month and love it. No more worries about my bike if I drop by the store and go in....I'm thinking about purchasing the faring since I hear a little road noise as I increase speed. It's worse when the moon roof is open. Anyway, I am very pleased with the purchase and Backcounty.
I have an 05 legacy gt and for those that have the subie with the no frame above the window might wonder how the q clips grab onto the car. Usually the clips hold on to the metal of the actual frame of the car. I was a little skeptical about how these grab onto the plastic ledge just above the window. I can now say after a season of use that these things won't damage the plastic and can hold quite a bit of force from the rack. P.S. you don't need to grip stickers it comes with if you have my setup
Traded cars. Now see that I need new Q Clips but my Santa Fe has factory side rails. Can I still use my Q Towers & just purchase new Q Clips to fit my Santa Fe? Or is there a whole new set up I have to purchase? Using for kayak. TKS!
KAThy, The best thing to do would be go to www.yakima.com and go through the "Fit My Car" setup guide. It will configure your exact car for what you want to do, kayaks and anything else. From what you have said I think you will just need either some Railgrabs or Lowriders to attach the bars you have to your Santa Fe's factory side rails, then the rest of your rack should work the same, that is assuming you already had the set up for a kayak. It does not look like you can use Q towers with a Santa Fe. I think they sell both the Railgrabs or Lowriders right here on BC, but be sure and check Yakima's website to be sure you have everything that you need.
Yakima racks are great except for their cost, especially for the little items like the Q-clips. $30 for two small pieces of metal. From what I can tell the only difference in the various clip model numbers is the location of the identical holes. With the amount of adjustment available in the towers themselves I think that a person could make up for the location of the hole with the tower adjustment and not have to buy new clips when moving a rack from one car to another.
yes there are costly !!!!! I have a few , I belive these things are heat treated IT best not to try to bend or hammer them. I am am cheap !!!! But if it dont fit right The rack , boat bike could fall off , bad for WORSE for the person be hine you ..... Have fun BE SAFE.
You can't tell much then. The differences in the design of most Q-clips are very different. They range from board-flat to very curvy...all designed to match the curves of your roof and door line.
Andrew, the best way to be sure you get exactly what you need would be to go to www.yakima.com and go through the "Fit My Car" setup guide. What you need will depend on what year your car is. It looks like one option would be Q towers, 48" bars, Q99 & Q34 clips, and a Bigstack to carry the kayak. All of which I believe is sold right here on BC. But check Yakima's website first to be sure that you get everything that you need.
I called Yakima directly before I bought these clips. The people that answer questions at Yakima don't even seem to understand there own products! I was told by a Yakima rep this would work with 1a rain gutter towers. They do not work with the rain gutter clips. However backcountry was awsome!! They let me return the items with out any problems at all!
So far, the Yakima system I put together from 3 different suppliers has worked just fine. I bought most components from this site as was pleased with the price. The system is fairly easy to setup and feels sturdy enough to not worry about putting my new Cannondale on. I certainly would purchase this whole setup again.
I went on the yakima website for you and saw what you needed. If you already have the q towers and everything then you are going to need Q5 for the front clips and Q35 for the rear clips. If you want to do it yourself here is the website http://www.yakima.com/Consumer/Step1.aspx Hope that helps Kyle
My only frustration with these clips, was that (unlike 90% of Saturn parts), replacing my car with one 8 years newer, required changing the Q clips at all!
In all seriousness, the changeover between clips (and installation of stretch kit), went smoothly and flawlessly. The rule of thumb is that installing a rack takes up to two hours... and major changes take about that long as well. Having a 'buddy' to check measurements helps, but otherwise, work in daylight, check your measurements twice, and get out on the road... The 1,080 mile trip to Black Rock City, gave the new rack a solid "test drive", and left little doubt as to the quality of the rack... and the installation.
Are these racks durable enough as i will also carry ladders on my roof from time to time, besides my surfboards. Also which clips do i need for a 91 Pathfinder.
So long as you can secure your ladders to the rack and not exceed the prescribed weight limits for the rack and your vehicle, this setup is quite durable. If you have not yet handled the crossbars, you will be surprisd by how heavy they are. As far as the clips you need, go to Yakima's website for a complete fit of your year, make, and model.
I've got a stack of car racks in the shed and then bought a yakima for an old Mercedes I owned, hated to buy another rack so looked for replacement clips to go on my Volvo. They work great. Took five minutes to switch them over. Cheers, Ship

Get your right size for your car and it will do the job. Never had a single problem with my roof rack. Don't skimp and buy some old ones or ones more...
The website says 40% off on Q Clips and then lists a hundred different ones with only ONE in the list at the sale price. Yet the page hits you in the more...
