The Yakima KingPin 2's bike arms fold down easily with the new Quick Cam lever when the bikes are removed. The mast also folds down conveniently when free of bikes for vehicle access. The KingPin 2 carries almost all bikes without needing top-tube adaptors. The SwitchBlade anti-sway bike cradles keep your bikes scratch free until you inflict your own damage on the ride. The KingPin 2 holds up to 2 bikes, and fits a 2” receiver hitch. Optional accessories include the DeadLock System and 1 ¼" adapter.

Bottom Line: If you're tired of dealing with bulky racks when you're flying solo or heading out with your favorite riding buddy, the KingPin 2 is your solution.

Be careful

There have been an increasing number of reviews about this rack being stolen completely off the car. If you purchase this rack and want to leave it on your vehicle a good percentage of the time, I definitely recommend getting the Yakima Deadlock kit for the unit ($40.00). This allows you to lock the Yakima rack to your hitch as well as lock the bicycles to the Yakima. I believe you can purchase these two components separately, but then you will be dealing with two separate keys. It is best just to cough up the $40.00 and get them both at the same time.

wicked good quality!

I received this bike rack as a present in 2007. It fits 2 bikes (even with odd shaped frames) very well. Best part about this rack is that if you do need to get into the back of your trunk the rack folds down by the slip of a pin. I leave this rack on my car every summer and have had no issues with any breakage or damage to the car (or rack). I have short summers so that is 4 months. It is the best solution for a small girl like me to get her bike around without lifting a heavy downhill frame to the top of the car! I will admit that I have had countless issues with the rubber leashes that attach your bike to the rack. It is a bitch to get on and off when the rubber gets cold. I feel as though the rubber is such great quality that it doesn't stretch enough and always messes up one of my fingers when attaching or undoing. hah, i shouldn't even bitch about that.

Good performance, ease of use

By:

Yakima has come through again with a solid piece of gear. Assembled and hooked to my car in 15 minutes I'm able to transport my bikes knowing that they won't fall off or that the rack itself won't fall apart. I had looked at many different kinds of racks from different companys and they scared me. They looked and felt cheap. The kicker for this rack is that it folds back so I can still get into the back of my car with little to now hassle. Great price for the product.....

Sturdy hitch carrier w/good features

By:
January 8, 2007

This is a very strong carrier and both the hitch mounting and hinge designs make the whole carrier 'one' w/the vehicle. The swing arm feature is great and easy to use, allowing easy access to the back of the vehicle and the stop for it is just right. The rubber straps used to secure the bike(s) to the carrier are strong and secure, but require some strength and a good grip, and can be difficult to work with in cold weather when one's hands lose strength due to the cold. With just a brief period becoming familiar with it and a little practice, I'm able to install the carrier and mount a bike on it in ~5 minutes.

I've not had it all that long, but so far I'm very pleased with it and it does appear that it will stand the test of time. We'll see.

Best bike rack made

This Yakima hitch mount bike rack is the way to go. We have a Subaru Outback and can still open the hatch without even swinging the rack down (it has a mechanism for this). You get better gas mileage with your bikes on the back vs the roof, and your bikes don't get plastered with bugs.

KingPin2

The KingPin 2 is very well designed. Kingpin2 is very solid, buy the lock feature (it stows neatly in the rack). I selected a hitch mount because it is easier to load. The trunk of my car (Focus Sedan) can open even with bike on. Car fits in the garage with the bikes on.

Perfect For Me

By:
March 27, 2007

Well I have had the Yakima KingPin 2 for about a month and I absolutely love it. There are just enough features on it for me like the fold down feature so i can get into the back of my car while the rack is still on. It's super easy to install and use on a daily basis. I have it with the 1 1/4 in. adapter and it still works great.
