    Eliminates wind noise.

Not only does the Yakima Fairing impart a streamlined, sporty aesthetic to your vehicle's roof rack, but it also eliminates the racket imposed by blustery winds at highway speeds. Its protective bumpers ensure a scratch-free fit along the top of your vehicle. Note that the Fairing is only compatible with Yakima's round crossbars, and it comes in a variety of sizes to fit your vehicle, ranging from 32 to 50-inches wide.

    • Compatible with Yakima's round crossbars only (works with all Yakima towers)
    • Protective bumpers won't scratch paint

    Don't ride without it

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I skimped when I first did my rack system.... don't do that. The bars will whistle so loud you will be screaming your conversation. Going over 35mph you can start to hear it.

    No more noise!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

In case you thought fairings were just for looks, they aren't. It's amazing how much of a difference it makes. Put one on my old Acura TL and I've got no complaints. Mounted to round crossbars. I ran into trouble trying to figure out what size to get b/c when I went to Yakima's site to determine, they don't really tell you. So give Yakima's customer service a call, or chat with the good folks at Backcountry, to help you determine proper sizing.

    No Noise!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The fairing is really easy to install and it definitely does away w/all the noise, and I have noticed the MPG went a little since installing it, it looks good too ;)

    Def Necessary

I have the Q-bar system and I drove around with just the bars on for a couple of days before my fairing came in and it was noisy at any speed of 30mph. After I put the fairing on sweet sweet silence.

      Sweet Rack

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Only problem I found is that you can not install this fairing on just any crossbar. I had to order a yakima crossbar just to install this fairing. Other than that it looks cool.

      Mounting Issue

Heads up...this fairing only mounts to round crossbars. It's a small detail I overlooked, but since all the roof racks are universal I just assumed the fairing would be too. When I emailed Yakima for a suggestion, their customer service rep "captain obvious" told me they only mount to yakima round crossbars...thanks for clearing that up! but I need solutions, not facts.

        James,

This is a huge pain, as I found out as well. What I did was modify the clips to work on my 4Runner. I cut the rouded portion of the clips, then used mighty mounts to attach to my front factory cross bar. Works like a champ! I didn't use any special tools really. Just a hack saw and some patience. Hope this helps!

        Looks good and...

Wait! I don't have to yell to my passengers anymore? I don't have to take my crossrails off every time I'm going out of town and don't need my kayak or snowboard? What a difference one piece of plastic makes in the grand scheme of things. At 35mph my rack used to howl like a dog at the moon and now even at 70mph it's quiet. Only concern is the rubber guards against the paint because I don't see those clear guards you put on the paint lasting long - especially the first time I go to buff my car.

          Looks good

I am not going to lie, after I got this I really did not notice much of a difference at all in noise reduction. Maybe my suby just doesn't have a lot of forced or displaced draft over the canopy. Now that I have one I would not have a rack with out it; Aesthetics aren't everything but it sure makes my suby look sexy.

            Shhh... Yakima

I was a bit skeptical at first, but I got a great price on it from Backcountry so I purchased it. WOW! What a difference! I installed it on a 2007 Mazda 3 (Hatchback). Easy to install, but make sure you run a "test" install first to make sure you know exactly were everything is going. Once you push in the push screws they will NOT come back out and Yakima doesn't give you any extras. I have a sun roof that slides back and tilts up. I can no longer slide it back, but I can still tilt it.

              Shhh... Yakima

This fairing makes the rack look tons better while saving gas milage. I drove around for months without one and it made a world of difference with taking away the noise. If you have a car rack, you will need to get one of these!

Hello. I have a couple of questions.
I just installed a Thule roof rack on my 2010 Toyota Prius (no sunroof). What size fairing should i purchase? Also, looking at the different fairings, can i purchase any brand?
                Thank you,
                -Khemara

To see what size of fairing you need you can do 2 things. 1. you can take whatever length of crossbars you used and size down a couple of inches and get that size. 2. You can take a tape measure and measure the width of the room of your car and get that size.

The Yakima fairing won't work unfortunately so you will have to get the Thule Fairing. Thule and Yakima use different size and shaped bars so you wouldn't be able to fit the fairings.
