No more noise!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

In case you thought fairings were just for looks, they aren't. It's amazing how much of a difference it makes. Put one on my old Acura TL and I've got no complaints. Mounted to round crossbars. I ran into trouble trying to figure out what size to get b/c when I went to Yakima's site to determine, they don't really tell you. So give Yakima's customer service a call, or chat with the good folks at Backcountry, to help you determine proper sizing.

Will I have to buy keys for this fairing?...

Will I have to buy keys for this fairing? or would it be pretty hard for someone to steal off of my car?

Responded on

You can't actually lock the fairing to the car so there is nothing technically stopping someone from stealing it, other than it being time consuming and awkward for a thief.

No Noise!

The fairing is really easy to install and it definitely does away w/all the noise, and I have noticed the MPG went a little since installing it, it looks good too ;)

What size fairing do I need for a 2010 silverado?(Yakima)

Hey Levi, check out the neat fit tool on Yakima's website here: http://yakima.com/fit/Information or you can also chat in and speak with on of our GearHeads.

Much quieter now

Incredibly simple to install. And it definitely makes the drive much quieter. Also saves some MPG as well!

Def Necessary

I have the Q-bar system and I drove around with just the bars on for a couple of days before my fairing came in and it was noisy at any speed of 30mph. After I put the fairing on sweet sweet silence.

Sweet Rack

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Only problem I found is that you can not install this fairing on just any crossbar. I had to order a yakima crossbar just to install this fairing. Other than that it looks cool.

keep your rack on

instead of taking the crossbars off every time you aren't using them, use this and keep noise down.

Mounting Issue

  • Gender: Male

Heads up...this fairing only mounts to round crossbars. It's a small detail I overlooked, but since all the roof racks are universal I just assumed the fairing would be too. When I emailed Yakima for a suggestion, their customer service rep "captain obvious" told me they only mount to yakima round crossbars...thanks for clearing that up! but I need solutions, not facts.

James,

This is a huge pain, as I found out as well. What I did was modify the clips to work on my 4Runner. I cut the rouded portion of the clips, then used mighty mounts to attach to my front factory cross bar. Works like a champ! I didn't use any special tools really. Just a hack saw and some patience. Hope this helps!

Responded on

Interesting solution. I searched "mighty mounts". Only found mounts from Yakima and picture frame mounting company. Which ones did you use?

Quiets Down Your Ride

Looks great and reduces noise while driving. Some vehicles benefit from the faring more than others. It also provides a seamless look between rack and vehicle and gives you a great place to plaster stickers, if that's your thing.

Looks good and...

Wait! I don't have to yell to my passengers anymore? I don't have to take my crossrails off every time I'm going out of town and don't need my kayak or snowboard? What a difference one piece of plastic makes in the grand scheme of things. At 35mph my rack used to howl like a dog at the moon and now even at 70mph it's quiet. Only concern is the rubber guards against the paint because I don't see those clear guards you put on the paint lasting long - especially the first time I go to buff my car.

Looks good

I am not going to lie, after I got this I really did not notice much of a difference at all in noise reduction. Maybe my suby just doesn't have a lot of forced or displaced draft over the canopy. Now that I have one I would not have a rack with out it; Aesthetics aren't everything but it sure makes my suby look sexy.

Looks sweet

They look sweet and they reduced the noise while driving on the highway. The only problem is that I need to arrange my kayak holders alittle differently to avoid the fairings mounts.

Shhh... Yakima

I was a bit skeptical at first, but I got a great price on it from Backcountry so I purchased it. WOW! What a difference! I installed it on a 2007 Mazda 3 (Hatchback). Easy to install, but make sure you run a "test" install first to make sure you know exactly were everything is going. Once you push in the push screws they will NOT come back out and Yakima doesn't give you any extras. I have a sun roof that slides back and tilts up. I can no longer slide it back, but I can still tilt it.

Shhh... Yakima
