    Rack 'em up.

If you're building up a Yakima roof rack from scratch (not as fun as building up a bike, granted), you'll need this four-set of Yakima Control Towers. The Control Towers snap into the Yakima Landing Pads, which fit into just about every factory track, and work with Yakima crossbars, so you only need those three ingredients to build a bomber base rack to start hauling your gear.

    Yakima, the best!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

We bought these towers in conjunction with the Landing Pad 1 to install on a Leer shell that sits on our Ford F350. Easy install with instructions, measurements, and most tools necessary for the job. We did have to install rails and had to drill holes in the shell. Measure twice, drill once. Carrying Bikes, SUP's, gear boxes and more is always easy with Yakima racks! Cant go wrong.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Easy installation on my 2008 Impreza with landing pad #11.
Looks good on the car and very little wind noise. So far it looks like a good base system. Only unknowns are how strong it is (each control tower is held to car by one bolt only), and we'll see about durability.

    Quick Install, Strong Mounting

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Put these on my '12 Mazda 3 5-door and they are great. Quick and simple to install, not to mention they look way better than the Q Towers.

The only negative to the Control Towers is that the cross bar sits pretty high off the roof and can be pretty noisy, especially with the sunroof open. Just a note and definitely wouldn't take a star off for that because Yakima already makes a quieter, more aerodynamic system.

    Bomb

I had a set on an old ford escort (my first car which I had 13 years until last year). I put these up and had them up there for about 10 of those years. Best rack system ever, easy to install, does not hurt you car and allows you to use Yakima racks the best racks ever. They are made in the USA and They have an incredible customer service department (they really work with you; USE THAT WARRANTY). Other than that I only had to adjust them 1 time in the 10 years I had them up, the do not move around at all. I question Yakima's spacing instructions and have actually found the wider the base the less movement you have, so play around with your cars dimensions and see what works for you.

      Yakima is the best, always.

I purchased these for my Toyota Tacoma with a Leer roof rack. They mate with the Land Pad 1 very easily. As with all Yakima products, they went on easy and are sure to last a lifetime. Adjustment rocks and they come will all necessary tools.

        Yakima is the best, always.

        Bombproof Rack System

Control Tower is the best rack system I have had on any of my trucks. They make taking to rack on and off really easy. Important when gas prices are high. They are really secure, when you rotate the tab into place it pushs rods outward into the landing pad for a secure hold. Lock the tower and your off to the races! It used to take me more than a half hour to install or remove my rack. Now it takes less than five minutes. This system should get a gear award!

          Great site!

I was really happy with how quickly my items shipped (inlcuded Cross Bars, Control Towers, Landing Pads, MultiMounts and a pair of shoes) and the price; much cheaper than other sites and stores. My items arrived within seven days of placing my order!! Will check Backcountry.com FIRST in the future.

            Unanswered Question

Do these come with end caps for the cross bars? I've read that the bars don't come with end caps, but the end caps DO come with the towers. Please let me know? Thanks!

Get the Control towers, Landing pads option #10 (Yakima Landing Pads work in conjunction with Control Towers), 48" Yakima crossbars, and if you choose to get a fairing (for noise reduction and aerodynamics) get the 38" version.

As far as mounting you bikes, you could get two Copperheads if you want to fork mount, or two Raptors if you want to leave the front tires on. Other bike racks you could use with your car:
            ForkLift
            FrontLoader
            HighRoller
            KingCobra
            RaptorAero
            SideWinder
            SprocketRocket
            SteelHead
            Viper

Go to www.Yakima.com or www.Thule.com and get your car "fitted" for rack options. If your CR-V has factory rails already installed (not factory tracks), you can get Yakima Rail Grab towers or Thule Crossroad towers. Your options for bike racks are basically endless since you'll be going with round (Yakima) or square (Thule) bars. Your decision will be between fork-mounted bike racks, frame-grab bike racks or wheel-grab bike racks. Fork-mounted bike racks are the most stable and solid; however, you have to find somewhere to put the front wheel. The frame and wheel-grab racks are convenient in that you don't have to remove the front wheel of the bike for transport; however, they are less stable. They still work fine, though. Also, with a vehicle of your height, the fork-mounted options are easier to use because they require you to lift the bike less high than the racks that hold the bike with the front wheel still intact. Hope this helps.

Would these fit onto my 2008 Subaru Imbreza? Or do I need to buy something besides just the Control Tower to make it fit?

What Yakima towers are used for a 2001 Coleman Santa Fe Tent Trailer?

Tent trailer? Are there any fixed hardpoints? You need something sturdy enough to bolt either widebody brackets or tracks to so that you can use either raingutter towers (with the widebody brackets which simulate rain gutters) or control towers which use tracks.

I have an 03 Saturn ION to which I would like to attach a tent (see: http://www.cartopcamper.com). The empty tent weighs about 110 LBS. When my husband and I are in the tent with our gear, the weight is close to 500 lbs. However, half of this weight is supported by the ladder. Would the Yakima Control Tower work for us?
