They work well

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have had these for a couple years now. Put them on top of my car all season long and they do their job well. They do make some wind noise but not so much that it is annoying. The price is great.

Wonderful product

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

We bought this bad boy to help us cart around our equipment to the slopes. It holds up well. We have a combination of skis and snowboards, and the powderhound holds both with no problem. Wind resistance is there going down the highway, however, to fix that problem we just turn up the radio and listen to our favorite tunes. All in all, a must have to clear us space in the vehicle.

Good rack

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Kept it on my STI all winter, carried snowboard >30 times.

It get the job done, and the price is reasonable. There're wind noise but I don't care that much.

I wish they made it easier to adjust and take-off (like just unscrew one not two screws), thus minus one star. But once you put it on, it's solid.

Great Value

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

i really like this rack and i thinks it's an excellent price for what you get. it can hold six pairs of skinny skis or 4 pairs of fat skis. it's a quick and easy installation, and it locks. issues are that the lock can be picky when it's cold, it has a small effect on your gas mileage, and there's some wind noise on the highway. if you can throw down for the fat cats, i think you'll be happier in the long run. however, this is a great rack setup and it's way better than trying to fit them in your car.

Almost Perfect

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

As others said, installs super quickly, can't be removed when locked, worked well even with an uneven (3) number of snowboards in it. My only gripe is that the latching mechanism is plastic.

Testify!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I was wary when I got these for my husband's Ford Explorer because he is a Thule fan but surprisingly, he has loved them. They are not as loud as we thought they'd be, unless it is super windy. Also, they are super tough, we ran them into a low garage and they held up like champs.

More room for friends

Why stash your gear in the car and risk tearing up your interior, when you can lock it down on the roof, and have more room to share your adventure? The Powderhound accomplishes just that in a basic, yet effective design. Easy to install, easy to use, with minor wind noise on the highway.

Carry thy skis and boards correctly

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Dont cram your boards in the trunk. Carry them the right way with these racks. They mount on almost any factory or aftermarket crossbar. Carries your snow gear effortlessly and they lock so you dont have to worry about them getting stolen when you're away from the car. Just make sure bindings are facing down. They do make a little noise in high speeds, but nothing extremely annoying. The rubber pads do mark the topsheet of your skis/board a little but wipes right off.

Super Tough!

These things are well built, easy to open and the universal mount compresses onto just about any shape of bar. Install in about 20 minutes. All tools you need come in the box.

Ready to hit the slopes - but no snow

I'm female and over 50, and I had no problem at all putting the Powderhound together and mounting it on my Xterra. I haven't had the opportunity to load her up, but I did try out loading the snowboard and it worked perfectly. I know if when it finally does snow, I will have plenty of room for my friends and our gear in the Xterra because the boards will be securely stowed in the Powderhound. :)

Good so far...

Compatable with big brand name racks but will run into issues if you have another kind- in my case a custom rack for land rover. There wasn't enough clearance between my roof and rack to get the clamps to fit. So it took a bit of juryrigging to get it to work. Still, when it did, it worked good. Although, the actual rack itself is considerably less 'solid' then I had anticipated. I would imagine if someone REALLY wanted your gear, chances are they could get it- but not without some work. Hopefully by then, a passer by may hear your car alarm, or you wake up in time enough to ask them if they need any help. Because just as the advert suggests, sleeping in the parking lot is something that some of us do.

Load 'em up

I was able to load four pairs of big powder skis up on the rack. Super easy to use and lock. Nice to have the rack stay opened up for loading and unloading. Overall easy install as well.

I own a 2000 Jeep Cherokee and a 2005 Pacifica, both have factory installed roof racks. Will this product fit?

David, you can go to Yakima's website and find the exact rack to fit your vehicle. Very helpful http://www.yakima.com/

Bombproof

The Big Powderhound has been a phenomenal piece of equipment. I installed the thing and then threw 4 snowboards on it and drove 600 miles to Colorado and this thing did not move one bit. It held all the boards perfectly with no damage to them thanks to the rubber sections and I had no concerns at all that this was going to come off. I got the fairing from Yakima and I had no problems with whistling either. I would highly recommend this and any other Yakima products.
