Round is Right

Yakima 58" round bars are just what my rack needed to haul my gear. Plenty wide to fit whatever I need to attach for my travels.

I have an '02 Chevy Trailblazer and need a set of crossbars to carry two canoes/kayaks. It has a standard roof rack on it. What accessories do I need to attach the round bars to the existing roof rack?

That's a bit of an open ended question and would take a lot for a full answer here in the community. If you give us a call then one of our reps can go through all the details with you and we can narrow down exactly what you are going to need.

Otherwise if you click on the Yakima Car Rack Configurator banner on this page it will pull you over to the Yakima site and with your vehicle specs imputed it you can select everything you need and then they will transpose those parts into your cart.

Built to last!

These bars are definitely built to last. They fit perfectly on my 2012 Subaru Impreza without sticking out too much. Now I don't feel like my car is handicapped anymore!

I have a 2009 Scion XB that has no type of factory rails on the roof, nothing. I am getting into kayaking and want to be able to transport using this vehicle. How do I mount these and what do I need to order so I can use them, or should I order something else?

You'll need what are called "towers," and they vary vehicle to vehicle. Luckily, both Backcountry and Yakima have web apps that'll walk you through exactly what will fit your specific car. Go here ( to figure it out.

Great rack, great bars!

Made in the USA

I think these are the strongest crossbars on the market. Much more durable than manufacturer cross bars and a much more universal design than Thule and some other companies out there. Need I also say Yakima made in the USA which is another bonus. Thule is swedish and are there really any other companies than that.

Yakima RoundBar

I installed the 58" bar on my Subaru Outback. The length sticks out a few inches past the side of the car, but never seems to get in the way. The extra length was perfect for carrying two touring kayaks side by side.

The old standard

Not sure how to review a roof rack bar but these are great. I have had every length of these made on all sorts of vehicles. They have held bikes, kayaks, mattresses, mother in laws and everything else in between.

If you need a bar, this will work.

Yakima - 58" Round Bar

I have a Mazda 3 and decided to go with the 58" which is a bit longer than the recommended. You can fit two racks on there easily only problem is you have to worry about getting out of the car and hitting your head.

These bars are very solid, I'm sure they will last. Holds 2 highrollers nicely and could probably fit 2 smaller bike racks. Fits just a skybox 21, and fits just the FatCat 6.

Can these bars be trimmed to fit ? Say i want 52"

Responded on

Absolutely. I would measure twice and cut once though:). I believe it's always better to get longer bars just in case. Once you have them on your car, you can determine if they are too long. The only recommendation from Yakima is that the weight limit of your rack system hasn't been exceeded. You can have as long a bar as you want. Obviously if the bar is too long, it may cause people exiting the vehicle to hit their heads.

Also, the other thing to watch out for is that you do want some extra on each side of the towers. I don't remember if it said 1 inch or 2 but when I installed my rack it did say to ensure there was a certain amount of extra on each side.

I love my Yakima 58" crossbars. They are mounted on my 2007 Toyota Tacoma tie down cleats via L2S Sport Rack Brackets. Fits all my gear leaving room for whatever else I may need. Great combo!!

Great platform for any system

Do the job! Very solid bars and heavy as well... Put some glue on the bar ends (just a little) because they fit large

Write your question here...Anyone know what size I need to outfit a Rav 4?

Responded on

The recommended size for a Rav4 (06, base model, you'd want to check on your exact car on needs a 58" bar. However, this is really just a "minimum size". If you go with this, you probably won't be able to fit any attachments to the outer part of your bars. My car (Outback) also says to go with the 58", but I have 66" bars. They allow for me to mount bike trays on the outer part of the rack. On a taller car like yours, you probably don't have to worry about passengers running in to longer bars, so I'd say go longer... get out the tape measure and see how much overlap you'd have with different size bars, and figure out what you want to carry, and order accordingly!

Super solid and tough cross bar. I dig the round Yakima over the Square Thule... not sure why, Just seems more sturdy, more aerodynamic, more compatible and IMO better looking.

The 58" size is perfect on my 04' Honda Pilot... The 66" would have turned it into a boeing 737...

It's a bar...

It is round, it is long, it is sturdy, and it is solid. I most definitely trust my bike on these bars. Installed on a 07 GMC Envoy. But kind of dumb end caps are not included. Is it that hard to include 50 cents worth of round plastic?
