X-Socks designed the Men's Trekking Expedition Short Sock with the exceptional ankle support, padding, and breathability necessary to withstand the heavy impacts induced by long, rugged treks in any climate. AirConditioning Channels, in conjunction with the Traverse AirFlow Channel system, work to keep your feet optimally cooled and bathed in fresh air to prevent blisters and reduce the onset of swelling and fatigue. Instep, heel, toe, and Achilles protectors all buffer your feet from the specific forces generated by trekking over rough uneven terrain. As with all X-Socks, the Trekking Expedition sock features an X-Cross bandage that supports the crucial muscles, tendons, and ligaments around your ankle.

Bottom Line: This excellent mid-calf trekking sock offers exceptional, lasting support and outstanding breathability.

Impressive warmth for the weight

By:
March 6, 2011

I wore these for about 6 hours straight during drastic swings in temperature. These socks were extremely warm, which impressed me especially because they are pretty lightweight compared to my other socks with similar warmth. However, I got hotspots on both feet (balls of feet and heel). I will still use these when the temperature drops and I feel like wearing my hiking shoes instead of boots, but will stick to the smartwool socks with my boots.

How are the expedition short treking socks sized? The size info is too small to read. Or am I showing my lack of computer skills?

My new favorite socks!

By:
June 4, 2007

These socks aren't cheap at all, but I now own three pairs! If you are looking for a well-padded sock that doesn't burn up your feet in heat or over long pack trips, this is the best sock I have ever found. I have tried several other brands but have always walked a balancing act between padding to comfort sore feet and temperature control during summer temperatures. These socks feel substantial enough on your feet to eliminate binding from laces and abrasion on foot pads, but keep your feet cool at the same time. They do seem a little fragile in the weaving around the heel, but I have had no problems so far.

After a year of wear (and three extended treks), a hole develops in the same place between the two levels of thickness on the back of the heel. They have a lifetime warranty, but frankly I don't want to hassle with returning old socks.

Well worth the price

By:
August 20, 2007

I have to admit that I was skeptical of these socks at first, but it didn't take long for me to become a fan of X-socks. Yes, they cost a bit more than your ordinary hiking and trekking socks, but these are well worth the price you pay. They fit snug and the sizing is a bit tricky. They seem to fit about a 1/2 size smaller on my feet, but I don't mind the additional compression.
