Not too big and not too small. In other words, just right.
The Wilderness Systems Pungo 120 Kayak hits that size sweet spot, striking perfectly in the middle of the Pungo line of boats. Unless you're dunking basketballs with ease or winning limbo competitions on the regular, this boat should fit you just right. No ability qualifiers exist: pro paddlers, middling kayakers, and neophyte non-swimmers will all enjoy outings in this sleek, stable beast. Luxury seating, in the form of the Phase AirPro 3 seat, and a removable console give paddlers of all prowess a cushioned ride and the option of bringing a beverage, or two, on board.
As the middle sibling in the Pungo series of recreational boats, the 120 sports the same profile as the 100 and 140, but with an inch difference across the middle. A modified V runs down the center of the hull, and hard chines lead to soft, bellowed sides through the middle. Since the boat tapers at the ends, the V acts as a keel for true tracking with every stroke. With a long waterline and touring-inspired design, the Pungo helps new boaters feel stable from the outset, but won't leave experienced paddlers desperately searching for more.
The Phase 3 AirPro buttresses your back without restricting your stroking ability, and webbed straps let you turn this supportive seat into an on-water recliner. The SlideLock foot brace system puts adjustment options at you fingertips, making this boat ideal for sharing between friends. The Kayak Konsole keeps your travel mug of coffee upright, sports a little bulkhead for hiding snacks, and comes off when you want the extra bow space for Fido. Canine companionship or not, the stern bulkhead offers a chunk of cargo room for slightly bigger items that require a slightly drier ride.

My in-laws travel around in a motorhome and go to the most amazing places, so of course they needed a couple kayaks to broaden their adventure and i cant tell you how happy they are with them! They are so comfortable and functional - dry storage spaces, adjustable seating and foot pegs, net pouch below the seat and even cup holders! what more do you need. This was a great purchase and i hope they last a long time on their journey.
Looking at this kayak for my wife. We live in Seattle and would be using this kayak in the sound on calmer flatter days and in some local lakes around town. Do you think this would be a good boat to take out on ocean water?
