Description

The middle brother of the Pungo line of recreational kayaks.

A best-seller for recreational boaters, the Wilderness Systems Pungo 120 Kayak instills confidence and keeps you comfortable on the lake or the pond. Seasoned paddlers will appreciate the luxury of the cushioned Phase 3 seating, while burgeoning boaters will find that they're able to progress their skills quickly thanks to the stable and predictable hull shape. As the middle size of the Pungo series of kayaks, this boat is ideal for smaller boaters who need room to move or medium-sized boaters who favor boat maneuverability.

  • Polyethylene hull is highly durable and resistant to warping
  • Hull uses low bow and stern rocker to strike a balance between maneuverability and tracking
  • Hull flares prominently at the cockpit and gradually tapers off toward the bow and stern in order to improve overall lateral stability
  • Phase 3 AirPro Seating is fully adjustable, quick-drying, and designed to provide an extra-comfortable boating experience
  • SlideLock Foot Brace system gives you a pair of pedals to rest your feet on, and the pedals slide along a rail system that's adjustable to fit a variety of leg lengths
  • Thigh and knee padding keeps your legs from resting against the cold, hard side of the boat
  • Kayak Konsole provides a small amount of storage easily accessible from right inside the cockpit
  • Stern hatch provides a moderate amount of storage space and features a bulkhead and a water-resistant hatch to keep water out
  • Bungee deck rigging allows you to keep a rain jacket or waterproof map easily accessible from the cockpit
  • Comfort carry handles give you a secure hand-hold when you're loading and unloading this boat from the water

We just bought this kayak (EMS, Hyannis, MA) and notice a sharp edge around the rim of the cockpit. Both my son and I cut our fingers on it. Is this a defect or just something your QC missed bewfore shipping? How can we fix it

Hey Jack,

If you cut yourselves, I would say that you did more than just "notice" it. I don't know if it's a defect, a QC issue, or just the nature of the molding process, but some wet-dry sandpaper should take care of it. If it's heavy flashing, maybe take a file to it first, then graduate through finer grits of the sandpaper until it's smoother and you're happy. It might get kind of sketchy if you don't exactly know what you're doing, but a quick pass with a blowtorch would also work to soften the edge.

Along the same lines as what Phil said above, if you happen to have a rasp (think file with really large teeth) or a deburring tool (seen here: http://www.mcmaster.com/#deburring-blades/=n0woe9), they would be the quickest and easiest way to get rid of the sharp edge. Sand paper and any file would definitely work and it won't hurt the kayak at all. After plastic is molded, the seams have to be cut and quite often they don't get checked for sharpness. Sadly, you ended up with one that was a bit sharper than most. Hopefully you can fix it without getting injured again.
