Fish, photograph, or take Fido for a spin around the lake.

If your idea of a relaxing weekend involves a full cooler, a fly rod, and a long-zoom lens, turn to the Wilderness Systems Commander 140 Kayak. The boat blurs defining lines between boats, taking bits of pieces from canoes, sit-on-top kayaks, angling workhorses, and sit-inside kayaks. Without a clearly outlined course of action, you get to choose your own adventure from beginning to end. This long-limbed 'yak carries you along whether you're slipping through marshy shores in search of a Northern Harrier or toting along Fido for a little quality time with man's best friend.

Built with a similar silhouette as the Ride series, the Commander profile evokes pontoon boats, and it has a keel running down the middle so you're not steering in circles. Longer and narrower than the Ride, this kayak loses a little standing room in the cockpit, but unless you're practicing high kicks on the water, it's unlikely the missing inches will bother you. Standing to cast or crouching behind your tripod won't tip the boat or leave you angling for more space. The AirPro Freedom Elite seating system lowers your paddling for maximum efficiency. The elevated molded-in captain's seat not only lets you take a passenger along, but it also provides a paddling position option for when you want to optimize visibility.

Kayakers of all kinds will relish in this ultimate hobby boat. The adjustable SlideLock foot brace system means the pro-cager and his shorter wife can both enjoy a custom leg fit. The Commander comes rudder ready (rudder sold separately) if you're angling to try drift fishing. An optional motor mount lets you tack on a trolling motor. Cram kibble, sleeping bag, and tent into a dry bag, secure it with the bungee in the stern tankwell, and set out for an overnight with your four-legged friend. When you're back on shore, Comfort Carry handles and a skid plate make it easy to bring the boat back to your car.
