- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I bought this combo a number of years ago when I first got into rock climbing. Since I have used it on some big rappels, canyoneering, and climbing and it does what it is suppose to do.

I bought five sets for my club. I got them because they were very cheap with our discount. If you're willing to spend the extra money, I recommend the Petzl Verso or Reverso
I bought this package as a beginner who has done some rock climbing and wanted to start investing in gear but not spend a lot. This is a great buy if that's what you're looking for too. The carabiner is not top of the line but will definitely do the trick if you just wanna get out and climb. Plus it's much cheaper than other self locking carabiners. The belay device is great too. Altogether, its a great buy for starting your gear collection
Great Belay/Rappel device
I can't comment on the biner, but the belay device is great. Smooth control of fat and skinny ropes. Usually use a grigri, but I always have one of these with me for emergencies or when I'm ice climbing.
this belay device and locking biner are perfect for a first time buyer, its cheap and i felt super solid on the wall, and it has been the preferred device among all my climbing groups.
Wild Country VC Pro 2 & Synergy Lite SG Belay Package
The Synergy biner is a bit small for being a belay specific item, but otherwise this package works just as well as the ATC XP and for a bit less coin! As long as you're not using SUPER skinny cords, this should do just fine.
great and cheap
I have to say this is probably one of my favorite standard belay devices. it is cheap and great quality. the teethed end works great for locking off the rope and makes lowering an breeze. as far as the carabiner goes its a pretty standard locking biner. personally i'm a fan of the automatic locking ones
