Description

The Wild Country VC 2 Pro gives you more power to make big catches on skinny lines.

Your partner just pitched off the climb for a 30-footer, but you have the Wild Country VC 2 Pro Belay Device to easily catch his screamer even though he's using an ultra-thin rope. Its aggressive V-shaped grooves lock down tight when you need some extra help to stop big falls on skinny lines. Turn the VC 2 Pro around to the smooth side when you're rapping a slabby pitch and need less friction. *Comes in assorted colors.

I own many of these and will continue to buy them when they wear out or get lost when I loan them out to friends that I take canyoneering. I have found 1 downside about all ATC's. While 8's twist the rope, ATC's cause sheath slippage. That just means that the sheath will slowly slip out over the core and you will eventually have a sheath tail on the end and the core will be deep inside the sheath. This does not affect the performance, strength, or safety of the rope. It is just a slight inconvenience that can easily be fixed by cutting that end off with a hot knife and possibly taking a needle and thread to the ends of the rope and putting a bunch of thread through the ends so the sheath can't slip over the core.

I mainly use these for rappelling when I'm Canyoneering and have been using these for 2 years now! I've tried various 8's, BD ATC XP, and the Sterling ATS over the years and I keep coming back to the VC Pro 2 because of it's so inexpensive compared to other Rappel/belay devices and has the curved side to start out with little friction and easily move the rope over to the teeth side to add more friction when you need it. Also It's an ATC so it doesn't twist the rope like an 8 does. I have many of these to loan out to friends I bring canyoneering.

I chose this device over others because of its light weight and low price. I have used it belaying sport climbers and belaying rappels from above. Works great.

I love this belay device so much that I own about 6 of them! I keep a couple strictly for climbing and I use the rest for canyoneering! The curved side is perfect for a nice smooth rappel at the top and when you need more friction, just effortlessly move the rope over to the grooved teeth side to help add friction on long rappels! If it's a small rappel simply flip it around and use the smooth side to avoid too much friction with the grooved side!

I definitely have trouble feeding thicker ropes through this at my local indoor climbing gym. I am not considering this a negative feature though because I was aware of this before I bought it. Other than that it does everything that a belay device should do.

Does everything it needs to. Thick tube stock, feels more burly than the petzl verso. This seems to take thicker ropes much better than my verso even though the listed diameters for single ropes are really close. I would at least look at the verso for using skinnier lines.

Has plenty of friction for doing free-hanging rappels on skinny 8mm half ropes but still feeds great on my 10.2 single rope.

Definitely has more friction compared to an ATC-XP on the ropes I rapped.

Doesn't hang up on any rope when belaying except of course for the ubiquitous fuzzy gym rope.

For me this replaces a Trango Jaws which would hang up more belaying and wasn't as smooth to rap.

Hi, tech specs says it is a 7-9mm diameter rope, but when trying to add to basket it says 8-11mm rope diameter. So, what rope diameter will acctualy fit into this device?. Thank you

The VC Pro 2 will deal with single Ropes from 9mm upwards and double ropes from 7.7mm upwards.
