Description

For 30 years, Western Mountaineering has been dedicated to constructing the finest & lightest sleeping bags on the market. Their workmanship and design outshine the competition.

The Western Mountaineering MegaLite Sleeping Bag will keep you warm and comfortable down to 30ºF and weighs a mere 1½lb (Reg) – yes, that's mega light! Western Mountaineering uses only the best European goose down, and with 850+ fill, the MegaLite bag is an excellent choice for chilly camping. With a 64” shoulder girth, the MegaLite is cut to suit bigger bodies and is also great for those who simply prefer roomier bags. 20 x 20 denier Ripstop nylon provides even construction for a more downproof fabric – means down is less likely to leak out of your bag like a goose shedding its feathers. A silky smooth taffeta lining is soft on the skin and breathable for climate control inside your bag so you stay warm without cooking your goose. The MegaLite features a top collar to cut out pesky drafts and seal in precious heat. You'll appreciate Western Mountaineering's meticulous craftsmanship when you're still sleeping toasty warm decades after you purchased this bag.

You can try looking at some hiking forums if you wouldn't mind a used one. You could go to backpackinglight.com>forums>gear swap but it is pretty much used products.

This is in NY during my Appalachian Trail Thru-hike. There is still full loft after using it every day for 2.5 months. Used it every day for a total of 4 months and it's still doing great!

Great Bag

This bag is wonderful, I slept in 15 degree weather and i was in my boxers and a tshirt and was very comfortable and warm. I like how wide it is which allows for a lot of room to wiggle around, especially on the top part. Theres not as much leg room, but theres still plenty. You can unzip where your feet are a little if your feet get hot as well which is nice. Packs very small and very light. While I wish I didn't come in purple, I am fine with it because it's so great! I also had my little dog in the sleeping bag as I was afraid she would get cold in her portable kennel over night and she didn't tear it (I was a little worried I won't lie) so it is durable as well.

is there another 30 degree mummy bag that compares to this bag without the use of 850+ Down fill ? comparing warmth, weight & stuff size? any advice would be great. Thanks...

Simply put, no. WM has the best bags on the market. Materials, design, craftmanship, weight, etc.

For a step down, check out mont-bell or GoLite.

Short size fits to 5'6" weighs 1 lb 7 oz and shoulder/hip/foot measures 63"/56"/39".Looking for a new sleeping bag I would go to a store where you can try a few sleeping bags out tofigure out how much room you really need. Buy a bag that's too large and you have to heat all the extra space, buy a bag that fits like a glove and you may be too uncomfortable to sleep. The MegaLite is one of the roomier bags on the market and Western Mountaineering has a reputation for exceptional quality.Hope that helps.

Great Bag

Only used it once so far, but my initial impression is very good. The campout I took it on was just a weekend out with temperatures in the low 40's to upper 30's at night. The bag was very comfortable. I specifically like the design and construction of the drawstring and closure around your face. It is easy, efficient, doesn't get Velcro up against you, and is easy to find at night in the dark. The dual full-length zipper is great to help regulate temperatures at both ends - I wouldn't buy a warmer weather bag without one. I also like the storage bag it comes with so you don't have to store it in the stuff sack, that way the down maintains its loft better. Overall, excellent.

Awesome,

I haven't used my bag in the wild just yet, but I am very excited to use it at the first chance I get. I was very pleased with the weight of the bag, the materials and the roominess, I did get in it and lay down on my Big Agnes air mattress. I was shocked how warm I got after only a few seconds, and how comfortable the material of the bag is. Also I was very pleased with the speed and customer service. Best I have seen in a long time.

das ist wunderbar

i used this bag in alaska for three weeks outside... glorious bag... the temperature probalbly dipped around 30 perhaps a little colder but i was warm inside my tent and bag. i slept in an uber light pair of pants and a long sleeve shirt (because i thought it was more comfotable than shorts and short sleeve on the nylon) amazing bag defeintly could be taken colder than 20 if you layer properly (and if your in a tandem tent (because of the body heat given off))

The best bag i have ever owned

This bag is great. the first night in it I spent got down in the low 30's - I awoke from the best night of sleep I had while the others said they couldn't sleep b/c of the cold. Besides that the bag has great workmanship and I have a feeling it will last me for a long long time only to be replace by another western mountaineering bag. The extra girth is great for my bigger frame body. I can't say enough good things about it. the only thing I wish is it came in dark green color b/c it is my favorite color

Great bag!

Even though I've only taken it out on one trip, it's plenty warm, it zips to my girlfriend's REI bag quite nicely, and I think it's even warmer than her REI 15-degree bag. Other brands I've gotten have pretty "optimistic" temperature ratings, but this brand delivers! You can compress it even smaller than the stuff sack they give you, but I called WM and they're pretty cautionary about compressing it any further.

Wonderful Sleeping bag

This is a great bag. It is a nice balance between weight and warmth. Just spent the night at around 25-30 and it was great. Comfortable. I am 6ft2in, 200 pounds and this bag was just the right amount of space. I like have some wiggle room, where you don't have to feel like you are in a straight jacket. And there's a full zipper. Worth the money.

MegaLite my life

I've been a fan of Western Mountaineering's bags since I bought my first which was a 40 degree bag. The MegaLite 30 degree down is great! The quality of the material is superb, and as yet, I have had only one feather attempt an escape from its confines. The heavy zipper panels make opening and closing the zipper much easier than any other bag I have ever owned or used. I may just buy another identical to this one just for backup.

Nice, warm and comfy

Well, I took the sleeping bag out a week ago for two quick nights out and stayed up on the Cumberland Plataeu in TN. Had some nice cool weather roll through overnight and tested the sleeping bag in to 50's with just shorts to sleep in. The bag kept me nice and warm the two nights with nary a chill.

I would highly recommend this bag to anyone. The bonus part is packing it the next morning. I stuffed it in their XS stuff sack and then cinched it down. Nice and small.

Best bag I've ever owned, so far....

I could count the number of down sleeping bags I've owned since 1971 on one hand and still have change.

An REI McKinley, a SnowLion (best name in the world), a Marmot Pinnacle, and now a Western Mountaineering Megalite.

I'm big, sleep warm, and getting old and decrepit, so I need a lightweight sleeping bag that had a full zip and tons of shoulder space. The Megalite fits the bill perfectly.

Construction was amazing and you could squeeze this mother into something smaller than a bread box. Its first trip was a soggy weekend on Catalina Island and I'm looking forward to numerous Sierra treks with the lightest bag I've owned. It’s well worth the extra bit of green this sleeping bag costs.
