What a great jacket!

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

This jacket is incredible. It is very well made with a high attention to detail. The jacket is made of a combination eVent fabric on the hood, shoulders and top of the arms; the lower arms, lower back and lower front of the jacket use Polartec NeoShell; then the middle of the back and armpit have a material called schoeller C_Change that opens and closes with the heat and cold.

At 5'9" and 170 lbs the medium fits me great. I've worn it over a t-shirt, over a wool base-layer, with a fleece mid-layer, with the same fleece mid-layer plus a down vest, and with a light weight down.

This jacket with its patch work of different materials (they call it body mapping) works wonderfully for me. When I am active I sweat a lot, but I usually start off very cold. So I have had a habit of over dressing to begin with. If I don’t I feel cold and miserable for a long time. With this jacket I don’t overdress. I think the designers had people like me in mind when they made this one. I’ve only used the pit zips once. I’ve used it in high humidly east and the dry cold Rockies. It has not let me down. It keeps the outside elements out and gets rid of my own moisture.

I've never seen a piece of consumer clothing with this many different technologies built into it. Unfortunately it seems Westcomb is discontinuing the Revenant. I don’t think that they marketed correctly as even their own site barely highlights the different fabrics and no professional review I’ve seen on the web mentions all three.

Westcomb + eVent = amazing

I did all kinds of research this spring when I was looking into buying a warm-weather rain jacket, and I came to several conclusions; eVent waterproof membrane is the best (better than gore-tex in every category), Westcomb is amazing (they were formed by ex-Arc'teryx people, so the two brands are pretty similar in fit and features, but Westcomb uses eVent instead of Gore-tex and they're also better priced I think, but still made in Canada), and I look great in the russet/redrock color combo :)
I didn't get this particular jacket, I found the Cruiser LT on a different website and that jacket suited my needs better, but it's quite similar to this one, with two different fabrics for waterproofness and durability, similar styling, pit zips, front and napoleon pockets, high collar, same hood (which is the best hood ever!), and amazing construction quality and attention to detail. The Cruiser LT is lighter and cheaper though, and doesn't have the powder skirt, so it's better suited to warm weather use.
Overall, I'm crazy happy with my Westcomb jacket, and if offered the Cruiser LT, I would've bought it from here and written a review of it then. That being said, I'm gonna go ahead and rate this one anyway because they're very similar. I've never given something 5 stars before! Especially something I didn't actually own... (this may upset some people, but think of this rating as more of a rating of eVent and Westcomb than of this particular jacket).

I have the Crusier LT in size medium and it fits me so perfectly. I'm 6'1" with a 32" waist, 165lbs, and the jacket has the perfect length and sleeve length. I can fit a 100g North Face Heatseeker liner jacket underneath just fine.

I'm looking for an absolute BOMBproof shell that can be very cool on hot humid days. I do field work regularly in dense undergrowth and am still trying to find the perfect jacket that keeps me as cool as possible but will also live up to tons of abuse. Any recommendations? Is this jacket good in really hot jungle-comparable weather?

I don't own this jacket specifically, but it again seems to have specs that will make it too much for what you're looking for. I do however have the Westcomb Mirage, and that's another jacket that would do the job for you really well. Pretty much anything in eVent is going to be a great choice.

I own this exact shell in the yellow and I would highly recommend this as it is amazing! The features with the draw strings in the hood and waist are great. Also nice to have large pips in the arm pits for when you get worked up. Nothing better than buying a coat that supports Canadian designers, sewers and marketing instead of all the shit from slave factories in Asia. We need more Great Canadian apparel manufacturing!

What are the slits in the Jacket that are...

What are the slits in the Jacket that are lateral to the Napolean pockets? Looks like there are slits in the jacket that are found on the front between the Napolean pockets and the side pit zips. What are those for?

And how well does the schoeller® C_Change® fabric resist water, stretch, and wear over abbrasions?
