Ever wish your fleece was waterproof? Well, wishes are for fishes, so zip up the Westcomb Men’s Flow FX Hoody and ride. Polartec Thermal Pro fleece is bonded to a waterproof breathable eVENT membrane for lightweight, super warm, non-restrictive ski jacket.

  • Large underarm zippers provide ventilation when open
  • Removable, adjustable powder skirt blocks snow at the waist
  • Articulated elbows increase freedom of arm motion
  • Fully taped seams and laminated zippers prevent leaks
  • Velour chin guard prevents irritation

Bottom Line: This is what happens when a technical fleece and a waterproof membrane make sweet, sweet love.

Bruise color - Is it more red or brown? I can't quite tell on my screen but it appears to be brownish or perhaps even purple. The pants in that color even appear metallic so I'm a bit thrown off by which picture represents it best. Any one seen this in person?

It's a reddish brown... think deep red with more of a warm, earthy undertone. Definitely not purple.

The last insultated jacket I buy

So this review is for the 2011 Flow FX. First impression, love the denim feel/look (currently have the Absynthe color). This is also a heavy jacket coming in at a hair over 4 lbs., but the plush Polartec interior will leave you forgetting that. Second impression, DEEP pockets all around. The Flow FX has two large chest pockets with seamless zippers that are actually a bit hidden for a lack of a better description. The two hand pockets are also voluminous, and Westcomb designed a sleek look with the addition of a single snap button to keep the pockets more streamlined. Back to the interior - again, plush is how to best word the feel of the material. You definitely sense right away that you get what you pay for. This is a very warm but also very breathable jacket as eVent is superior to anything out there right now. Pit zips are long and again, seamless and waterproof. I'm 5'10", 180 lbs and the large fits roomy but not excessively baggy. I probably could have fit into a medium but opted for a more freeride look. Overall, I'm very impressed by the warmth, feel, durability, breathability, and waterproofing of the Flow FX.

WESTCOMB shows 2010 model. The latest model is lighter and its weight is less than 1 kg. I like the new fabric with textured distressed "denim" surface.

Product description states lining is Polartec Thermal Pro. Does it mean that it is insulated? The jacket is very heavy, which weight is over 1.5 kg.

Yes, I would consider this insulated. Its essentially a waterproof shell with a Thermal Pro fleece jacket sewn in. The thermal pro is high loft with almost a soft furry feel. Very warm. As for the weight, the shell fabric is a burly and very durable eVent shell fabric. Bombproof. Thicker than the other fabrics the Westcomb uses, and you will feel the difference in hand. What you gain in weight you also gain in abrasion resistance. When comparing the weight of this jacket to other jackets you should consider both the weight of a non-insulated shell and a fleece jacket.

Also, on Westcomb's site, their 2010 Flow is listed at just under a kg... a full pound lighter...
