Description

Kayakers who need a powerful paddle for training or gnarly conditions want Werner's Corryvrecken.

The Werner Corryvrecken Carbon Fiber Kayak Touring Paddle is a big, powerful paddle for well-conditioned high-angle paddlers. The carbon shaft keeps the Corryvrecken's weight low, and the foam-filled carbon blades are exceptionally light and buoyant, which lends better maneuverability. People who want a paddle for choppy conditions or training will like the Corryvrecken's wide blade. It lends powerful catch and stroke, and the slight dihedral shape helps link strokes smoothly. The Corryvrecken is excellent for bracing and rolling.

I bought and am using this paddle in the 215cm length. I just wanted to suggest that if you have shoulder problems you may want to stay away from this paddle. Go to the Werner website for more info on high angle and low angle paddles. This paddle is meant for high angle. Also there is a certain technique associated with the use of high angle. I am 52yr old, have had shoulder problems but now I ease into the season with easy paddling and plenty of warmup before I pour it on. Its a fun paddle to use and it will make your boat go faster.

I purchased this paddle as a Christmas gift for my self. After driving through 40 miles of snow I reached my favorite lake. Took down my boat and new paddle and loaded it onto the lake. After launching my boat I found it very easy to penetrate the 8 inches of snow on the lake but very difficult to penetrate the 14 inches of Ice. After wedging my way through the snow for an hour I decided to return to shore and wait 'til the snow and Ice melts before I give this paddle a real test of endurance. Burrrr

You don't have to be very strong to use this paddle but you do have to be prepared for a work out. I really bought this paddle for that exact reason and it fits perfectly. You also have to adjust to a "feathered" style of paddling which was new to me. Otherwise, a good breeze will rip the large blade out of your hands. However, after a few sessions I adjusted very well. The paddle is light and very strong. Well suited for that aerobic paddling workout session.
