A sturdy, pow-loving charger for the girls.
When you're riding up the lift, all people see is another pretty pair of pink bases; make sure you mount your helmet cam backwards, so you can relish their stunned faces as you blast through frozen roller-balls on your way to the steep and deep on the Volkl Aura Women's Ski. The Aura's a charger, with a torsion box construction and titanium sandwiching the poplar-and-ash core for an incredible combination of power, stability, and poppiness. The ash has been placed under the bindings for increased stiffness and binding hold, while there's poplar in the tips in tails for a fun, snappy ride in all sorts of snow. Which means you can put to rest once and for all the notion that pink can't be fast and rugged.
Of course, what use is a powder ski that can't float? None, which is why Volkl made sure the Aura was pow-proven, with a fully rockered profile and 100mm waist that's designed to make short work of big dumps, day-after chunder, and soft springtime corn. Rockered skis are easy to turn and comfortable to ride in bumpy conditions, and the Aura also incorporates a tapered tip that makes turn initiation even easier, so riding at speed doesn't have be a no-turning experience. It can be if you prefer, though.

- Multi-layer ash and poplar core
- Titanium laminate

I. Love. This. Ski.
- Gender: Female
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I don't often give 5-star ski reviews - it just doesn't happen.
This ski....is effin' rad.
I got to try it out for about 30 days towards the end of the 2014 spring, and it was a game changer for me.
I'd honestly always been a little terrified of Volkl skis because people always say "If you're not careful, a Volkl ski will SKI YOU."
Add a layer of metal in there and I was practically quaking in my ski boots with terror. As a smaller skier, I am pretty intimidated by metal skis and haven't spent a great deal of time on them.
This ski can handle ANYTHING! Literally....anything.
After getting used to the weight (heavier than the VJJ) I was able to fearlessly charge through really nasty stuff on this ski and felt solid control and didn't have trouble staying out of the backseat - which was my fear.
Yes, this ski needs to be skied forward.
Yes, you should pay attention. Yes, she will give you the ride of your life. Stable at speed, ripping on groomers, or surfing pow, this is one of the closest skis I've found to 'quiver' standards.
I love, love love it.
What started out as a game of fear factor has ended in a full-blown torrid love affair.
You seen my Aura lately? - because that thing is glowin'
