For the expert skier who wants to ski every snow condition, in any terrain, the Volkl AC40 Carbon Alpine Ski with Motion iPT R 14.0 Piston Binding provides exceptional versatility. Volkl put a layer of carbon in the AC40 to make it more lively—ideal for bounding through the trees on a powder day. Volkl's Extended Double Grip construction doubles the height of the core in critical areas of the ski to provide vice like edge hold. The Motion binding system allows the binding interface to glide as the ski flexes. This makes for an even flex, better pressure distribution over the edge, and better edge hold. Combine the tech construction with a wider waist and shovel, and you've got a ski that can rip the groomers, but hold it's own in the powder.

Bottom Line: Attack everything riding the Volkl AC40 Carbon Alpine Ski with Motion iPT R 14.0 Piston Binding.

All mountain roadster...

Stable and super quick getting into carved turns. It felt like skiing with a tuned-up sports car. I had more edge and turn than I needed. Doing super fast GS turns the AC40s felt like I was sitting in my living room. An incredible stable feeling. On groomed trails, bumps, not so deep powder or the spring crud they felt the best. In the deep stuff tho find another arrow for your quiver - the Volkls will not float and they lose the quickness. If I were Bob Dylan I'd write a song about them.

Great edge control, little unresponsive

Billed as the market leader for all mountain skis, I've found the AC 40s very good. Best edge control of any ski I have tried. They are a very stiff ski - not very responsive for short turns or in tight places (I used to ski the K2 Recon and preferred them for ease of short radius turn initiation). Get spanked if you drop into the back seat. Still pretty good in alta powder. Quite a heavy ski when combined with the piston bindings. I got them for $699 from backcountry.com end of year sale and at that price they are a bargain given their versatility in almost any conditions fromm pow, to crud to ice.

the difference between the 12 and 14 is the DIN setting. 14 has a DIN setting that goes up to 14. 12 should be fine unless you are obese or ski like seth morrison. I just bought the ac 40s and have skiied them in variable conditions at stowe. they have great edge control - good east coast ski for someone who doesnt ski groomers all day. ac 30s are less of an expert ski (maybe more advanced/intermediate). If you demoed the ac 40 adn liked it I would recommend it over the ac 30

Awesome all mountain ski

I ski these long in the 184cm and love them, I am 220 lb's, 6' and these things go anywhere. Great transition ski from Crud to Groomers, if you want more of a powder specific ski go with the Gotama or Katana but for a ski that excels on the corduroy as well as crud, powder or anything in between you can't beat these bad boys.

Everything you want and more...

Used a pair of these for 2 days at Alta. They have a quick response time from edge to edge and will do everything you tell them to do. Theycut the crud, float in the powder and cruise the groomed very well.

Extremely Impressed!!!
