Great for kayaking
- Fit: True to size
Got these for a multi-day whitewater kayaking trip on the Rogue River. I wanted something that would be both fit easily in my kayak (which many "water shoes" don't) and suffice for side hikes (which river booties don't). These were great for jumping in and out of the boat. They did pick up a lot of sand and small gravel but rinsed out easily. Traction on wet rocks was not as good as sticky rubber but still good enough for moving confidently. I wouldn't use them for long hikes but they worked well for short distances. As another reviewer noted, they are super easy to clean off -- even after walking in shoe-sucking mud -- and they air dry faster than any other river shoe I've owned. I definitely recommend these for paddlers.
Good customer service
This is more a review of Backcountry.com that it is of the shoe itself. (I ordered these shoes to use for crossing streams on Sierra hikes, and I haven't yet used them for that purpose, so I can't really comment on that.) I ordered a size 42, which according to the chart corresponded to a US size 9 shoe, which is my size. But when they came, I found that they were too big. I didn't know, though, if the next size down would be too small, and I wanted to try both on and then choose between them. I initiated a "Live Chat" with Backcountry.com and explained that I wanted to (1) order a pair the next size down (2) use the same "TAKE50" discount code on the second order that I'd used on the first to get the same discount price on the second order (3) have the second pair delivered with free shipping (4) not be charged shipping on the pair I returned and (5) get a full credit back for the pair I returned. All this was arranged. They sent the second pair 2 day priority mail. Even the second pair was a little big without socks, perfect with socks (and since I was going to use them as a camp shoe as well as a water-crossing shoe, I'd be wearing socks with them some of the time). I kept the second pair and returned the first. They received the first pair back on Tuesday and the credit was in my account early this morning (Thursday).
So (1) size down when ordering these shoes but (2) don't hesitate to order because you are unsure about sizing, because Backcountry.com's customer service will let you get it right without extra cost.
Fantastic, light shoe
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I bought these shoes for summer wear, stream crossings on hikes, and light camp wear. I've used them in marsh and in stream settings, and they stay on well, even when getting pulled at by mud. They're also really comfy for just wearing around and they breathe well. They do get a little sticky inside if you have no socks in summer, but its not bad. And a big plus is they are super easy to clean off and they dry very fast. Would recommend to anyone who wants a light shoe they can use in water.
Good every day shoe for spring and summe
- Gender: Female
Good every day shoe for spring and summer. Got these shoes for my mom. They will slowly mold to your feet and so become more comfortable with each use. Great for every day use and use in the water.
