Never leave home with out it

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

this is a great knife multi purpose use its truly a life saver when camping. its solid ,durable and does the job when need it. one thing i dislike is that its so smooth if your hands are wet it will slip. the saw is a plus great for cutting wood also the serated part of knife makes cutting easy like butter. great overall swiss army knife.

If you had to bring only one knife

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Into the woods or on a hike or to the beach I would put this in my pocket. This isn't the be all end all full tang, cut through a downed helo, baton wood survival knife. It's a practical knife for cutting through stuff, peeling fruits, food prep, sawing limbs, opening beer bottles and opening canned food. I have a couple of these knives that I leave in my bags for just in case or bring along for traveling. It's also cheap enough that if I were to lose one or destroy one from dueling with ninjas, I wouldn't feel too bad. I like to akin this knife to a simple Toyota pickup truck.

I dont get the point

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Multi tools are much handier in my opinion. This thing has a larger locking blade but the steel (440a equivalent) is soft and not really that great. I always have a designated fixed blade cutter with me however. Multi tool with a small knife, scissors, and pliers are the way to go.

Good knife, hate serrated blades

I got this knife as a gift and I really like it. The tools are great, however if you're backpacking then you're probably better off with a leatherman because of the pliers. I also don't like the serrated blade which is mostly designed for cutting man-made materials like rope, webbing etc. I think for carving tent pegs or making feather sticks the non-serrated version is much more useful. Not to mention sharpening a serrate blade takes a special diamond studded rod.

Victorinox One-Hand Trekker Mostly Rocks

Nice knife. Nice sized tools and it feels good in-hand. Pic below shows knife on display in Ledges State Park, Iowa.

Of the tools listed in the Product Description, I find the following useful: One-handed serrated locking blade, bottle opener + locking screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, toothpick, tweezers, reamer, wood saw. The knife deploys easily with one hand (one thumb) and the locking feature adds safety.

I find the following useless: can opener + small screwdriver, key ring. Assuming this really is a "trekking" knife, does ANYONE carry canned food in the backcountry anymore?

Two suggestions (and one star deduction): 1. ditch the can opener and replace with mid-size scissors; 2. Move locking feature from bottle opener to wood saw (which would you rather have locked?)

This is a great product and I love the locking knives. Perfect for the hike and camping. I don't think Victorinox can make a bad product.
