    Cut, tighten, magnify.

Geology and archaeology hounds appreciate the magnifying glass on the Victorinox Explorer Swiss Army Knife, while the scissors and two knife blades come in handy on a daily apple, thread, and small-wire-cutting basis. The Explorer Swiss Army Knife's can opener, bottle opener, tweezers, and toothpick come in handy when you're camping or road tripping. The Phillips screwdriver pops out of the top of the handle instead of the middle so it's easy to use for small home and on-the-go repairs.

    Best all around army knife

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I did take a while to pick which army knife to buy, I wanted something that I could use for most scenarios, and got around to picking this one, it turned out great! The only downside was that it got shipped pretty easily, I just bumped against a wall with it in my hand and a piece of the side went flying away, so be careful of not letting it fall down.

    Explorer Swiss Army Knife

Great blend of tools, only thing missing is the mini-pliers. Sadly replaces one I'd bought in Switzerland back in '98 and lost to TSA this year! Definitely lighter than my original but not sure if that necessarily means it won't hold up. Time will tell.

      The Explorer

I've been carrying one of these for years and I'd feel naked without it. The magnifying glass has come in handy for everything from first aid (finding slivers) to identifying bugs in a trout stream. The only thing I haven't used it for yet is starting a campfire. I'm actually looking forward to the day when everbody forgets to bring matches. I just hope we make that discovery before sunset.......
