Despite the middling 6mm offset, the Vasque Men's Ultra SST Trail Running Shoe is not for those afraid of heights. This off-road shoe seems to lean towards the plush end of the cushioning spectrum to take away the sole-stabbing insults that come from rude roots and brutish bits of boulders. While uber-techy terrain will give the Ultra a bit of trouble, you'll find immense pleasure in tackling runs that start in the morning and extend long into the afternoon.
Synthetic leather lies atop a stretch mesh sock so your foot gets some fresh air. The off-center boa lacing system eliminates mid-trail lace fumbling. Beneath your sole lies a supple, 4mm PU foam insole.
The ShapeShifter last has a foot-like shape for an anatomically-oriented fit to give your maximally cushioned running a natural feel. The pliant nature of the injection-molded EVA midsole and Morpheus sole helps the Ultra adapt to the nuances of the trail while buffering against impact forces and sharp trail trash. You'll find multi-directional lugs all along the lateral edge of the sole for traction over different types of terrain. The medial lugs are designed to give your foot strike stability without surrendering a smooth stride.
